Alarm Mines - legal or not?
Discussion
The internet has opened up all sorts of ways to make bangs - some with the most innocuous of household substances - if you just know where to look.
In these cases, the individual substances are not illegal, even though the use to which they are put might well be.
However in the case of the alarm mine, I would have expected that where it could utilise a live round, that it should be illegal - perhaps it has fallen into a hole in the legislation, so it's use with such munitions is the only offense?
I can testify to the deterrent affect... and with no complaints to date from any trespasser!
Perhaps if Tony Martin had one, then the pikey kid might still be alive!
Having access to pure oxygen a large balloon and camping gas, I can attest to the effectiveness (in the right proportions) in dismantling redundant caravans, or removing all traces of your barbeque in an instant! Be careful with those household products - you just never know what might happen!!

Stage flash powder - LETHAL when used the wrong way in the wrong hands! However gaffer tape is your friend on stage in more ways than the manufacturers ever thought of! Have you given up now?

Hi
Anyone can make explosives, its not hard and EVERY ingredient is in your house...most in the larder....
The problem is, if you dont know exactly what you are doing , they tend to do YOU more damage than others...
I do not think the local BIB would be amused at you blowing your own kitchen up either
All the best Brett

I've given up making bangs with flash powder, yes! Stage flash powder - LETHAL when used the wrong way in the wrong hands! However gaffer tape is your friend on stage in more ways than the manufacturers ever thought of! Have you given up now?
As to giving up theatre, in part, yes. I was a lighting designer then a producer for a while, but I've had other interests for the last few years.
I have recently taken up a few commissions to light exhibitions and ah-hoc performances in unusual buildings, which is quite satisfying. I also have 10k sq ft of rehearsal spaces, filming studios and galleries just off Brick Lane in East London, so I'm not out of it completely there, either. Are you in this line?

I gather you're from my old stamping-ground somewhere in the Lakes? I was (latterly) brought up in Hawkshead, used to be (amongst other things) resident tech / LD / etc. at the Theatre in the Forest in Grizedale (before it was closed down by the idiot new chap there, but that's another story for another day...), and so on.
I still hanker after returning (was back over Christmas). I even put together a bid for Wreay Castle a couple of years ago (to use as a film location and recording studio, amongst other things) but the numbers didn't really stack up.
So I'm still in London for now, although looking out for opportunities to get me back up there. Perhaps if I can find an old cottage, accessible only by Land Rover (there are a few left) then I could just up a satellite internet connection and work from the fells
