There are a number of police officers that contribute to this site and your terminology is not welcome.

1) Other use that terminology without censure.
2) A policeman was *named* on this site a few days ago and I suggested to the mods it was innaproprate. It was felt to be ok.
3) www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=53629&f=98&h=0
4) I won't use the 'f' word again but this morning it was becuase I felt it was innapropriate. Now it's because someone else feels it is.
5) Which makes me think: if my perception about what is acceptable can be shifted by events maybe so can yours too.

206xsi: Very good point! How the hell are the people who aren't 'f' any more going to prove he was still in a 40 limit? They will have waited for him to gather speed and for all they know he'd be past the sign by the time they got him. (In fact maybe he *was* past the sign when they got him?)

Ted - I can see where the line is drawn.

The BiB on this site understand the pains that the public have with the scamera operators. As we have been informed by our serving BIBs, in general a policeman manning a trap chooses the location on it's safety.

The average civilian operator seems to choose cash-generating spots which in general are places where the speed limit is ridiculously low. These makes them scum.

Toad, I don't claim to be 100% consistent, but the sticky at the top of this forum asks you to show respect to the BiBs that are here.

We looked the report about the BiB that was named elsewhere and didn't feel it worth intervening.

I'm not going to get into a long debate about this.

'Filth' is not an acceptable term and I will censor anyone else using the term here when it comes to my attention.

Please blame the government and NOT the BiB.

I certainly wouldnt use/be part of one of these Vans but i know that the one or two that i do know that use them dont do it through choice.......its their job, sadly.

I wont give my feelings about the Vans again as most people on here already know them but suffice to say, theres no substitute for a real live Policeman, whether it be Trafpols or not.

Toad, i can understand your frustrations etc etc but i can assure you that most of my colleagues are, as you know...good honest people and certainly not filth.

You misunderstand. I wasn't complaining about inconsistency! It's your site your site to be consistant or not as you wish.

I was merely pointing out that you agree with me.

In fact if you condense my point to "My brother would be more useful to the UK as a net contributor to the economy than a net drain on it." I'd say all but the most hardened appologists wouldn't be able to argue against it.

Burglars don't get sacked! If it's so f**king serious why don't they give him 28 days inside? He could take holiday, continue to pay tax and has a useful life in front of him once he's out!

Anyway I'm a lot calmer now. As I say above there are other ways out of this for him.

Will call him tomorrow when he's had a chance to calm down and I reckon things will be a bit less bleak.

If the *very* worst comes to the worst I'll *think* about take the ban.

Gonna be miserable for PH'ers, though, because I'm going to be very vocal about my martyrdom.

I will resume my policy of avoiding unpleasent language of any kind...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad but the snooper (assuming it was a radar detector) will not have gone off.

My snoopers have never picked up laser, and even if they did by the time you have reacted you have already been done.

If he gets away, tell him to get a jammer pronto! THE ONLY defense against the scamera vans

That might be true, but you subsequently admitted, "(it) was a civilian." - so don't lump the two together!

Just got a call from Pa Toad. [1]

Apparently the stretch was a 70 limit a short while ago.

He made a really good point. 2m people a year get criminalised in this way.

If Howard offered a points amnesty and banned cameras from issuing points in addition to the fine there would be two effects:

1) He would be prime minister.
2) Revenue would *increase* from the cameras because some people would still risk it.

[1] A combinaiton of in denial & hopping mad.

We'll wait for the NIP but I think it will be a issued by the police.

On a practical matter, if it *is* a ban his wife could take it.

It was a front facing shot - will anybody check?

Personally I reckon he should go down the refusal to identify route.

Just out of interest what happens if he makes multiple suggestions of driver id.

In other words:

He waits a fortnight and ID's me.
I wait a fortnight and provide alibi.
They write to him again.
He waits a fortnight and ID's person No 2.
Pers 2 waits a fortnight and provides alibi.
They write again...

How long could such a game be played out?

I think alot of people here don't understand NIP's very well.
If you fail to id the driver then they stick on the registered owner. I'm assuming in this case that they are one and the same.
You can still be disqualified under certain circs for not providing driver details.

And please stop bleating on about police as filth. Not very mature of you.

Feel free to prove your devotion to the cause by tearing up your license if you can't honestly say you haven't exceeded a limit 4 times in the last 3 years.

Your job might not depend on your license. Others do. You might not be ashamed of being dragged into court. Others are.

As sad as it may sound to some of you, no i don't speed as i don't really want to shell out 60 quid.
Any speeding i do is in a job car to calls (and there's plenty of em). Going fast doesn't really excite me. It's doing the response drive though busy traffic that i get a buzz from.

Calm down Toad!

Surely they cant sit in a NSL checking the speed of the 40MPH zone? It could have been a tax/insurance/stolen car checker.....you never know!

Just chill until the NIP arrives, if it dont its all good! If it does....then you can go mental!

I agree that this is more about money than safety but you do have to be so careful.

As for the locus of the vans. Our scameraship people put little camera on the road side and the van is parked out of site. That could be what this was. Camera was in 40 zone so that when you see van, it's too late.

They'll still get you! There will be a day when you blink and miss an inapropriate out of town 40.

As I say elsewhere my brother was a stickler for limits 'cos his job requires driving.

They just change a 70 to a 30 and put their van hidden in the 70 a few days later. Factor in a lorry between you and the 40 limit sign on a road you don't know and bingo: you'll be out of work too.

I can't wait until this issue is brought to the House of Lords or the European Courts of Justice.

This scandal will not continue!
