Great, I do hope that the guys on the A40 catch all those drunk drivers with that laser gun.

What a load of old rubbish!

PGM - I'm beginning to worry about you - do you just drive around looking for scameras?

You wont catch Drunk drivers with a Talivan......but then again, Drink drivers are not as big a problem on the A40 as the to**ers that cant furkin drive.

Also, as a result of the abnormaly high death rate amongst 'innocent' drivers, there will be 2 unmarked cars patrolling the A40, so if you speed, undertake, tailgate you will be caught and prosecuted.

Im sure that will not apply to anyone on here

Im sure that most people will agree with whats planned on the A40 and if you use it regularly then you will know what i mean.

I keep looking out for the stickers but the only one that ive seen is on the back of Oggs Chimaera.

I think that i should get a couple for our unmarked cars.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic, I guess it's hard to hear people's tone of voice on a forum

OffTopic: Tony, if you stopped a driver for undertaking and then realised they were a fellow poster here on PH, would you handle the situation any differently? Would you both go for a cup of tea?

Its almost impossible to not undertake on the A40, the fastest lane is generally lane 1...

Tony - do you prefer prowling in a marked or unmarked car? How different is it?

An unmarked car is by far the best one because you catch people driving in their own environment......everyone should be given the chance to be a passenger for a couple of hours, it really is like shelling peas in a pea shelling factory.

tonyrec,

What's the legal position if one is driving along, say, the M40 (4 lanes) in lane 1 and there's a slower moving vehicle in lane 2 or, more likely, 3 on an otherwise empty road? Are you expected to cross three lanes to lane 4, pass it, and then drop back into lane 1? Or, is the "allowed to pass on the nearside if the traffic in the lane to your right is travelling slower than you are" HWC rule applicable?

On that particular road, and any with 4 lanes, the usual poor lane discipline becomes non-existent.

Really you shouldnt undertake.
If im travelling along at the speed limit and theres a vehicle going slower in lane 4, then i would undertake as its a lot safer than coming up behind the slower car.
If however, it was in lane 2 then i would overtake as normal.

Its far safer and more sensible when theres an idiot cruising along in the outside lane at below the limit, to undertake in lane 1. You just have to be careful that he/she doesnt swerve across as you are doing it and collides with you because it will almost certainly look bad for you.

The Law says that you shouldnt undertake but applied with a bit of common sense there are times when you can.
The bottom line is that you have to be careful.

Tonyrec,

Thanks; that makes sense but that doesn't always mean it's going to be viewed sensibly.

Tony, we're all driving "unmarked" cars and we see things every day. The only thing is, we can't stop them and "have a word". It must be very satisfying to be able to help someone with their driving, rather than have to put up with it like we do.

Nah, you need one of those 'my other car is a TVR' stickers
