The article fails to prove that speed camreas save lives, and does appear to be written by someone who that believes that they work.
However my concern is that if more fixed sites get vandalised they will use more Talivans and of course the Talivans are more difficult to see as most GPS safety devices don't warn of Talivan sites!

With each unit costing £24,000 to replace, .....
Do they cost that much? I bet Gatso are laughing all the way to the bank!
So at 24k to replace a broken one and 60UKP per ticket that's 400 tickets before it breaks even.
Does anyone know how much it costs to Install/Maintain and Administer them? It seams that a large chunk of the fines are going to go straight into the manufacturers pocket.

"A counter-attack against the saboteurs is being launched by Susan Beck of the All Safety Camera Partnership, a publicly-funded body that works with the police to decide where Gatsos should be placed."
What's this All Safety Camera Partnership? I've not heard of it before. Why is it publicly-funded? And what qualifications does it have which enable it to contribute to the police's decisions on where to place new Gatsos?

I think that's just bad reporting. AIUI, the local scameraships decide where to put them.

A thought just struck me here. While I obviously can't condone the wanton destruction of government property (natch), it strikes me that, while they are on fire, the Gatsos are actually doing the job the government says they do.
'Cause at least people slow down to have a look...
madant69 Are you still on for drinks on Tuesday?

Nice one Madant! and @ 700 gone, only a few thousand left
A short clip from www.cabalamat.org/weblog/art_56.html
--------------------/quote----------------------------
A militant group, Motorists Against Detection (MAD), led by the legendary Captain Gatso, has took it upon itself to vandalise speed cameras, rendering them useless.
Says one website:
Motorists Against Detection (MAD) in the UK have claimed responsibility for taking out about 600 roadside speed cameras (known as Gatsos) across the country, according to spokesman Captain Gatso. The group only targets cameras on main highways, saying that they actually support their usage in built-up areas.
Disabling methods apparently include spray paint, angle-grinders and even plastic explosives!
Cheekily, they add:
CMG does not condone the disablement of Speed Cameras, especially with a spray can, say black, held about 5 inches away form the lens and applied for about 10 seconds.

I second that question - as stated in my post in General Gassing.

Thanks. So the article actually meant the National Safety Camera Liaison. Well I suppose it was close.
