Hi all, quick question, if I may. I am driving to my parents on Christmas day (I won't say exactly where). What do people think trafpol are going to be like then?

Will there be less around but they'll be in a bad mood cos they're having to work on Christmas day? Or, will there be extra around to catch the post christmas sherry DDs? Or, alternatively, will I be all on my own (one can hope!)?

Just wondering...

I spent my last 10 years in the job working on Christmas day (I was Traffic). Normally it would be a case of go in pick up a car and go home again, as it was a day when you would do what might be classed as Fire Brigade Policing, as you were always contactable on the end of a phone or on the radio, however, I have dealt with some particularly nasty accidents on Xmas day including fatals.

If I was on a late turn, I was actually quite pleased to get out on the road and get a bit of fresh air, so I would often go and check the Motorway route and do a few miles.

Boxing day was always busy though!

I have to say I am hoping for a fine, dry Christmas afternoon - as I shall postpone any drinking to about 4:00pm (when we will sit down to dinner)....so I can enjoy the quiet roads...

My mates dad bought a house 40 yds from the local bypass, and spent 20 years every single day pretending to be on the bypass.

Fire Brigade Policing but from past experience, someone nearly always decides to Kill themselves or others on the roads....even at Christmas.

Ah t-c, that overtime bonus. Boxing Day as well?

Skeleton crews will prevail manned by jovial, well mannered, helpful Plods as per usual.

..and tony absolutely right. Why they pick such a day to land upside down always amused me...

I used to go out spotting people playing with their Christmas presents on Christmas day when I worked up town.
Mid morning on Christmas Day my old sweat colleague and I spot a bloke riding around on his brand new mountain bike, we drove towards him to wish him a Merry Christmas and to have a look at his new bike. The guy falls into the road as we appraoch, we get out to go and help him and he starts swinging for both of us and we end up in a rather spectacular fight which ends up with a very drunk cyclist getting nicked on Christmas day for Drunk/Disordely..........so now I just stay at home or in the M1 control. Its far safer.

I remember my Dad coming home on Christmas day in the 'firms' Ford Zodiac estate. Yes, just like Z Cars! He was in the first patrol car on the M1 when it opened, but I think that was in a Humber Super Snipe estate. I'll never forget seeing him go down the street with the single blue light flashing. Anyone got the Corgi model?

Thanks all for the replies, specially the BiBs and friends of BiBs. Sounds like I will have a swift and easy run then. As for christmas presents, I already have mine. Took delivery of the RX8 last friday.

Oh, and if you're on duty, I promise you that I won't kill myself and disturb your day! ;-)

Never known anything like Boxing day, domestic after domestic, followed by liberal sprinklings of neighbour disputes. Topped off with large portions of general drunken disorder.

Boxing day, a classic.
