I can't really document trying to pay online as far as I know...unless anyone can tell me differently?
Your computer keyboard will have a print screen button. So when you attempt to pay, print the screen, save in paint. Job done if anyone ever chases you, you are an innocent man.Robatr0n said:
Her reply was "Well that's not your car sir."
Me: "Excuse me? It must be my car!"
Her: "No, what I mean is that the warden has issued a ticket to a car with the registration '0XX XXXX' and yours is 'OXX XXXX'. This means that as far as we're concerned, you didn't park your car illegally and you don't have to pay a fine. Have a great Christmas!"
That's basically what they said to me. Me: "Excuse me? It must be my car!"

Hi all, I'm wondering whether anyone has experience of this (I'm sure someone has)!
I was issued with a pcn and have noticed that the parking officer has used O instead of 0 in both instances where it occurs on my registration.
Can I contest this (council-issued) pcn on that basis? I've already contested it as the reason I was seven minutes late coming back to my car was because the friend I was having dinner with slipped over in the restaurant and had a nasty fall as we were leaving. She was fine, but the Council say this isn't a good enough reason.
Edited to say: There is a photograph of my car parked in the car park on the Council's parking fine portal.

This must be a wind up ? Are you serious ?I was issued with a pcn and have noticed that the parking officer has used O instead of 0 in both instances where it occurs on my registration.

I don’t know if this helps or confuses the issue but I once had the opposite happen:
I had parked a courtesy car and by mistake substituted the 0s for Os when paying at the meter. I got a parking charge! It was a genuine mistake and once I had explained over the phone and emailed an image of my ticket they were more than happy to cancel the charge.
You would hope that the benefit of the doubt always goes to the motorist and yours will be cancelled as well!

Why should it be a wind up? I'm quite capable of using the correct digits whenever I need to transpose my registration number - you'd think that someone whose actual job it was to get things like that correct might also be able to.I don't have extensive experience of contesting parking tickets, hence why I asked the question.

Who knows?! It can be very arbitrary, can't it?I had parked a courtesy car and by mistake substituted the 0s for Os when paying at the meter. I got a parking charge! I had an instance where the voice recognition software couldn't distinguish a 'S' from 'F' when I tried to register my car with one of those automated parking services. I tried several times, with no luck, and couldn't get through to speak to anyone, so I left it as an 'S' and never got a ticket whenever I parked in that particular car park. Who's to say a different parking attendant wouldn't have been so forgiving?

I'm astonished - this has to be the first time on a thread like this on PH that there isn't a post by one of the usual pontificating, holier than thou suspects telling the offending (or not) parker to "suck it up" or "pay up" as they deserve it. How odd!

The Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions (England) General Regulations 2007 deals with Parking contracventions .
It defines “penalty charge notice” as having the meaning given by regulation 8(1) which states
8.—(1) In these Regulations a “penalty charge notice” means a notice which—
(a) was served in accordance with regulation 9 or 10 in relation to a parking contravention; AND
(b) COMPLIES WITH THE REQUIREMENTS of the Schedule which apply to it
So we go to the Reg 8 Schedule which states
Regulation 8
SCHEDULE PENALTY CHARGES NOTICES
Contents of a penalty charge notice served under regulation 9 (or 10 detected by camera and posted)
1. A penalty charge notice served under regulation 9
MUST
in addition to the matters required to be included in it by regulation 3(2) of the Representations and Appeals Regulations, state—;
(c) THE REG MARK OF THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE ALLEGED CONTRAVENTION.
In this case the Reg Number is not that of the vehicle involved. It can therefore be argued that the Notice is invalid as it has not conformed to the Regs.
You may wish to consider these facts in an Appeal?

Thanks dvd for this, appreciate the time you have taken to reply to this. Cheers
Had a similar occurrence but this time I entered my number plate incorrectly, writing acb instead of abc for the final letters. (Last two reversed).
Decided it was best to drive to another car park. 7 quid lost but better than the hassle of a ticket and appeal.
I did read some companies when this happen are now agreeing the honest mistake but demanding twenty quid anyhow for their 'admin and investigation' charges.
