If I am driving enthusiastically, on an unfamilliar or rarely used roads, and I am stuck behind e.g. a Toyota Carina , doing 51mph . Am I correct in the assumption that when the white line on my side of the road goes from solid to widely spaced it is safe for me to cross the carriage-way, using roadcraft, to see further up the road, and overtake , as being on the wrong side will extend my vanishing point if I do so . And What should I do If the lines are wrong, and pulling over decreases my line of sight, Tell the local Graduates who paint said lines, or the local council???????

The law does allow you to cross a broken white line. Whether it is safe to do so is another thing.
