As the title says I need advice on removing untaxed car from private property.

I live in a block of flats with off street private gated parking. There is an untaxed car that seems to have been abandoned. All the residents have been asked and no one knows who owns it. It's parked in someone's allocated space.

I was thinking of putting a note on the car giving them 3 weeks to move it or we will tow it onto the street. We've spoken to the council and they can't do anything as it's on private property.

Suggestions welcomed and advice on legality.

Thanks,

Jody

Have you had a word with the police, in case it's stolen, etc?

At £1.20+ per litre you can feck right off with that suggestion...Stanley knife to fuel line on dumped car is more cost effective!

(after you've siphoned the best part into a handy tin for your own use that is)
I can't believe I've just said that!getmecoat

Council want reminding of their powers under Section 3 Refuse Disposal (Amenities) Act 1978:

Where it appears to a local authority that a motor vehicle in their area is abandoned without lawful authority on ANY land in the OPEN AIR or on any other land forming part of a [F1 highway] [ F1 road], it shall be the duty of the authority, subject to the following provisions of this section, to remove the vehicle.
(2) Where it appears to a local authority that the land on which a motor vehicle is abandoned as aforesaid is occupied by any person, the authority shall give him notice . . . F2 that they propose to remove the vehicle in pursuance of subsection (1) above but shall not be entitled to remove it if he objects to the proposal . . . F2 within the prescribed period.

So you have made enquiries of your neighbours to no avail and no body has been to it then it has been abandonded? They serve notice of land owner and if owner not forthcoming they ghave power to remove and deal with.

OR

£2.50 to DVLA with Reg No. Point out problem and ask for last Reg keeper. Put Missd Marples hat on and try and trace current owner.

Call the plod see if it's of interest to them. If not call the DVLA and apply for the V5. When V5 comes through sell the car. Keep the cash for a few years in case the owner comes along.

take plates of car, put on yours, go find as many speed camaras as you can find and let rip, spend all day and night getting flashed, then place number plates back on said car, then advertise for spares and repairs, or contact a company stating you have a wrecker to be taken away.

If its not in your allocated parking space why should you care? Just leave it alone...

Wait till it's dark and quiet then drag the thing onto a proper public road. It'll be ticketed and towed within a day or so.

DVLA are now asking for Data Protection Act registration number ! They will give my details to any old clamper, car park scammer etc but when it comes to me trying to remove a car from a field I'm responsible for, they won't tell me who the reg keeper is as I'm not registered under the DPA ! frown They really are a bunch of morons.

Phone your local scrap yard and ask them to pick up your old car to scrap as you have lost the keys.

I have know this to be used before (not by me!), a call to the Fire service will also command more response if local scrotes have broken open the fuel filler and left a slightly burnt rag hanging from it.
They will generally have someone take a look and then arrange for it to be towed.
