My 'problem' using your term is that we have argued that speed cameras are causing other offences to go unpunished because TrafPols have been replaced by speed cameras. Now we want speed cameras removed but do not see it is a priority to get TrafPol numbers back up.

I'm not sure if you're directing that to me as well, but I certainly do see it as a priority to get trafpol back on the job. On the first page of the web site it says:

"We believe that reducing the numbers of skilled traffic police is dangerous."

And in this thread I've said: "We certainly do need to build up the traffic police again." and you have quoted it back to me at least twice - seemingly without actually reading it.

To reiterate, I'm not trying to wind Paul up and I certainly broadly support what he's trying to do (which I'm sure is a great comfort ), I'm just not sure that holding onto a belief that cameras will ever be removed, rather than (at best) the rules being tweaked to make them a little 'fairer' seems like pie in the sky

I'm not wound up or offended in any way - please don't worry.

But I'm talking to all sorts of folk daily. Believe me when I say the policy cannot be sustained and it's only a matter of time. There's panic at the top. I promise.

Hang on, doesn't that mean I'd have to deal with trains?

And what are those other things? Buzzes? Bosses? Bussers? You know, they are red sometimes.

I'll buy a scrapyard and do the buses for you don't worry. Deltaf will sort the trains out with some explosives.

rospa? Hmmm! New Ministry for Numpty Education
und the training of police drivers

See! Sorted!

I hope so, I really do What's the betting that any change, should it come, doesn't look any more sensible than what we've got at the moment

I'm with Stooz on that one.

I would become an even safer driver if speed cameras exist because I would spend less time looking for speed cameras and staring at my speedo, and more time driving appropriately for the conditions I find myself in. I to will watch for speed cameras and hit the brakes (assuming there is nothing behind me) if I see one.

I am offended by the insinuation that I am a dangerous driver because I was once caught doing 71mph in a 60 on a deserted and fairly straight road where I could do a controlled stop of the vehicle at least twice within the distance I could see to be clear.

On the other occasion I was doing 71mph in a temporary road work 50mph, with 3 lanes to myself, nothing for a good half mile in front or behind me (it was very late), and no roadworks taking place. Having the camera switched on when road works aren't happening should in itself be illegal.

No! Cos you have to make those red buzzes very, very uncomfortable because that is what you will insist that the weird one uses! And you will make sure that he has to walk miles to the bus stop, and that his nearest supermarket is a long bumpy bus ride on clapped out bus!

- because you will be setting up a speed camera outside the weird one's house - and you will ping him for crime of driving 20mph and overtaking a tractor - which as you know is very very dangerous manoeuvre. And you will also persecute the Chief Constables of LanCASHire, NottingSCAMshire, and their little friends. Just so they know what it feels like

In the meantime - you will be building lots of nice roads for high performance cars - engineered by nonegreen. You will place high taxes on cyclists and other muesli munchers to pay for our roads.

Ach! - come the revolution! Revenge is sweet!

(Had hard day's hol with the children! ) Can you not tell! )
