'Wrong way' driver sent to jail

A Greater Manchester Police employee caught drink driving as she steered her car the wrong way on two motorways has been jailed for three months.
Sandra White, 50, of Furness Road, Middleton, was also banned for 18 months and ordered to take a re-test.

Manchester Crown Court heard White was captured on police video driving the wrong way on the M66 and then the M60 in Greater Manchester.

A police car had to swerve to avoid a head on crash.

'Wrong side'

The video footage showed White driving a Ford Ka in the wrong direction on the Edenfield by-pass near Rossendale, Lancashire, at 2300 BST on 2 March.

She continued onto the M66 failing to respond to police vehicles and was still on the wrong side by the time she reached the M60.

White did a u-turn and was eventually boxed in by three police cars.

A breath test revealed she was three times over the legal limit.

'Violent row'

The court heard she had taken the wheel after a violent row at a friend's dinner party.

Donald Owen, defending, said she was ashamed and bitterly regretted the incident.

Once she realised she was on the motorway she panicked.

But magistrates said someone would have died if she had hit any other vehicles.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the force would be considering her future now the criminal case was over.

Hmm, yes. Heard about a plod who's being done for death by dangerous driving during a chase.

Makes me wonder why officers continue in the job.

Looks as if it was not a Police officer but a civilian employee who could have been merely a cleaner.

There is a difference isn't there?

She was a lab technician actually.

But you are splitting hairs here.

She deserved more than she got because she should have known much better than to get into a car after a skinful even if she had had row with boyfriend, girlfriend or the family cat! And I do not give a where the she worked either! Heck! She could just as easily been a lab technician working for me or my husband! (Except my staff know better - at least I hope so!)

And Manchester paper also carried story of the football fan - complete pretzel, twazak and numpty all rolled into one, who ploughed into motorway workman - because he was late for the kick-off at Reebok stadium, got into wrong lane M60 and cut from L3 to M61 slip road.

All the twazak had to do was continue to J14 or even J13 and turn around. Not rocket science.

But the other story made headline front page news - because the lady worked as civilian at the local cop shop!

Both examples of worst type of driving - and a speed camera would not have prevented either of these - though perhaps a trafpol on patrol might have made numpty Bolton Wanderer think twice before making obviously dangerous maneouvre!

But then... sigh.... less of you ....sigh....canot be everywhere.............humph!
