Joining A45 at Wellinborough turn-off. Been away for 6 months, did not know about roadworks. Obviously missed single '40' warning sign (my fault - they are conspicuous enough). On slip road, get up to speed as quickly as possible. No traffic to speak of. Thought train then as follows: Notice cones in the central reservation. Notice '40' sign (foot off throttle - controlled speed reduction - not blind slamming on of brakes). Notice 'safety camera' (Haha) van on bridge about 50 metres after end of slip road. Notice speedo (about 65). Too late.

(By the way - the cones and roadworks are there because work has been ongoing on the safety barrier. Since Xmas apparently. Perhaps to lucrative a route to speed the work up).

NIP through today. 61 in a temporary 40. Can't argue. I'm guilty. Not good enough to just make a mistake these days. If I could speak to a human officer, I imagine this could be dealt with 'humanely', but cameras don't speak. The most unethical placing on a van I have ever seen.

What galls me is that I genuinely, hand on heart, don't deliberately speed through roadworks, villages, in towns etc. because I can understand and accept the danger in such situations. I desperately want to be proud of our police force, but this whole experience has turned me wholly against them.

Anyway - I live in abroad(I am back here for Easter) which is going to make correspondence highly difficult over this matter (some small sense of satisfaction filling in my African address on the NIP as I am not back here until Xmas). Should cost them something at least.

Another disgruntled law abiding citizen turned against what I now see as a petty minded police force penalising the innocent.

Terminal (start / end) signs must be in pairs. Get a photo, quick.
