My cousin BiB told you what it meant on Paulie's site! (Long story - but- ooops - I broke into my husband's den, hacked into his computer (his codes are soooo childish! ) and impersonated him on all his fave sites and addressed everyone on them as "Liebchen"! Got acid e-mail off the Cousin BiB informing me that I could get done for so many months hard labour over it! )

I had to grovel quite hard to get back into his good books as well! But he is easily pleased - it was slinky dress time!

Quick German lesson! We add -chen/ -lein/ and plain -"l" in Swiss, Austrian and Bavarian German. It means "small" or "little".

Liebe = love. Liebchen = "little love" or "Sweetheart" "Darling" or in the theatre "Luvvie"

In the area where I grew up - St Gallen - "Liebchen" is common usage. Bit like your own "Luv" "Ducks" and Dame Edna's "possum"

We do the same with our word for Mrs/woman/wife

Frau = Mrs. Fraulein = little Mrs or Miss

Maed = Maiden. Maedchen = little maiden = girl!

Kind = child Kindl = small child. Christkindl = Baby Jesus! "Kindchen" is not unknown in some areas and I used that to the rather mature youngster on Paulie's site thinking he would get it!

No - gone - was not in Berkshire yesterday. Was in London though! And my good morning attire worked very well with that traffic warden!

Edited to add - notice you were all looking for Leibchen!

You have to be very careful with ei and ie in German

Liebe means LOVE

Leib means BODY Leibchen means - little body and thus "bodice" "vest" or "undershirt"

You have to be similarly careful when discussing the weather - if the weather is close and humid and you mispronounce the word - you would be telling great big Bavarian that he is GAY! Not recommended!

What has happened to this forum? We have been overrun with cycle clip wearing tree hugging vegans who think 101 on the motorway is tantamount to attempted murder and we should all be locked up!

I did between 120 and 140mph up th M4 at 11.45pm the other night. I consider that less dangerous than doing 65mph in the rush hour. There was nothing on the motorway on the night in question, the visability was excellent and I slowed down to 95 to overtake lorries and used the outside lane giving me a whole lane clearance on my inside.

If the Gentleman in question at the start of this thread wants advice about his predicament, he does not need a lecture about whether someone else thinks he is a danger to society or not

(You have my sympathy Sean.... )

Anyone care to criticise my driving?

Nomex overalls suitably zipped up

Cheers,

Steve

as long as you didn't persist in calling me 'Leibchen'

Come on WildCat, what does 'Leibchen' mean?

Literally translated it means 'Undergarment', 'Bodice' or 'Vest'.

I don't think she means it in that context though. It is obviously something much more patronising than being what is described.
Unless of course she thinks of me as being close to her heart as a vest obviously would be.

This has brought my entire lab and team to standstill. I call them all "Liebchen" by the way - all the time! They are used to me!

We are having to have another tea break to calm down! The surreal images I now have in my over-active feline brain..... of you all thinking I was calling you all "undershirt" "Bodice" or "string vest"

Unreal!

Absolutely bloody right.

Sanctimonious Tw@t Forum urgently required where ST's can congratulate each other on not breaking the speed limit (or in fact any law),being generally too perfect for this world & allowing themselves to tut tut at everyone else to their hearts content.

Hi Guys

Thanks guys. Still haven't heard anything on the subject.

In response to the people critisising my driving ability. I have NEVER had an accident, the car I was in was my everyday drive, some of you may know what my other cars is, and this car makes you a lot more alert. I have done many driving courses, and do more trackdays than most people. Have 10 ten already this year and have another 3 to do in the next 10 days.

Everyone who has been a passenger with me, whether on track or on the road, has felt safe, and have commented on my driving skills.

I never said I wasn't guilty of the offence. I was just looking for some advice.

Have fun, and get out there in this great weather and enjoy your cars.

Cheers Sean

No doubt there'll be a few photos to confirm that to you dropping through your letterbox very soon. You'll be able to reminisce by looking at them whilst serving your ban...

And wasn't it soooooo thoughtful of you to slow down to a mere 90 mph to overtake lorries - although you also stated that the motorway was empty.

Let's have a sensible UK motorway speed limit (NOT 70 mph) - but also very harsh sentences indeed for total imbeciles who delight in flouting the law.

Unless he was going past the camera in Swansea or from J5 inwards then I very much doubt it indeed.

I bet you need a bloody big ladder to get into that ivory tower

What if , by some fluke, M Way speed limits were abolished. Would people driving at 120 - 140 + still be total imbeciles? Are those driving on unlimited autobahns at speed total imbeciles? Am I wasting my time writing this?

Perhaps.

"I'm so good that limits don't apply to me"

Might be an epitaph one day.

'Perhaps' isn't much of an answer.

I'll try again , what if there are no limits?

Winding people up is one thing, flagrant trollism is frankly a tad passe.

Excellente, nonetheless, as Monsieur l'ambassadeur might say.

I also do 20 - 25mph in 30mph limits as required as I feel this speed reflects given circumstances and conditions to.....

I KNOW for a FACT that there will be no photo's in the post as I travel that stretch of motorway twice a day and there are NO cameras. I also know there are no Bridges for BIB and very few laybays either. I fully appreciate that I could get banned or even go to prison if caught driving at those speeds. I also made sure I identified each make and model of car as I approached it at speed to make a judgement as to whether it had potential to be an unmarked police car and some "feathering of the throttle" was required.

I take my driving very seriously. The biggest killer is not speed as you mistakenly perceive it but MISAPPLICATION of speed in the given circumstances e.g. a legal 65mph on a busy/wet/foggy.

A sensible motorway limit would be 90 mph in the dry and 70 in the wet, with more police patrols to catch the imbeciles tailgaiting, driving in the middle lane, using their phones, chatting to their passenger, doing their makeup, shaving, etc..... These are your imbeciles, so don't class me amongst them thank you very much.

Cheers,

Steve.
