150mph is too fast....period.
Gary old chap, you'll have to quantify that!! 150mph is not particularly fast, roads and conditions and all that......I regularly drive at speeds well in excess of 150mph and have not killed anyone or had an (self caused, had numpties bump into me!) accident in 2 MILLION kms! Mind you not on British roads.........
On a british road unless it's on the M6 north of Lancaster with no traffic then agreed its slightly OTT!!
Erm I beg to differ I did 165 on the GPS a few weeks ago (Speedo indicated 170+) It was for a short burst and the worst possible scenario was me getting snotted as no other road users around at the time and no nearby housing or even road furniture. Whats the problem?
There's no problem with that speed. Like other folk I've travelled at just about every rate of knots from zero to the sound barrier. Only when pulling a few g while horizontal or upside down did I feel the 'speed kills' message made any sense - death by nausea. 150+ on an open, wide, deserted, dry (etc) road is perfectly safe in many modern high performance cars.

I've done 150 before and it took all my concentration, I couldn't have talked, to even a passenger, but I'm a man and we're not very good at multi-tasking.

Grouch.

Agreed. I know that when I'm in Germany with "her indoors", she has the standing rule to not engage in pointless chat if I'm doing over 100 mph.

I do like to concentrate when I'm going fast.

Over in UK, pop the cruise on, get a CD on, pick my nose, look out of the side windows ...

A very different style of driving.

It has to be...with all the numptie drivers you share the road with....change lanes without looking in mirrors etc etc.

Agreed Street, and the reason for a lot of the numptiness is the lie that motorists are told over and over again. Those piloting white goods to buy budgie seed - rather than driving a car with pride in their standards - believe it. Namely the lie that if you drive to a speed limit you are a safe driver. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Do you really see a lot of that going on? We've been through this before, but people hardly ever seem to do that to me. I do not understand why we seem to see things so differently. My observation must be worse than I thought!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Hmmm, a few years ago I was journeying down to Paris in my Lotus Carlton along the A1 Autoroute. Our cruising speed was around 140 with occasional forays into much higher speeds but rarely dipping below 100. We got to Paris and back in an afternoon. I'm not superman but I've had some experience of zoomy cars and found the whole trip extremely comfortable. Yes, I had to concentrate for those few hours because the scenery was moving past quite quickly, but not to the point where I couldn't engage in conversation with my passengers. In fact it was much more stressfull negotiating the streets around the Eiffle Tower than letting the car do what it was constructed for.

It all depends on the situation as to whether or this chap was being safe or I was being reckless.

Do you really think that I have so little regard for my life that I don't account for them, predict their every move and smile when they do precisely what I anticipted as I take the evasive action I had already planned?

That's the spirit John. Carry on along those lines.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

You say that, but my practical experience is that folks *do* look in mirrors before they change lanes.

Most folks aren't that keen on getting killed. Ok they might only look once because they assume other drivers aren't going very fast.

Let's not forget that very few folks get killed on UK motorways - something like 200 - 300, and most of them are on the hard shoulder. Lane 3 is a safe place to be.

Still want to tell me it's dangerous on UK motorways ?

Either way..it's not wise to pull out in front of a vehicle approaching from the rear at speed. Is it?

Still crap driving...however you look at it..
