Just spend some time in Devon.

First for the praise:

We on the A303, and it was great.

I assume it was a 3 lane section, 'suicide lane' layout, with both sides of traffic having access.

It was then by the looks of it, made 2 lanes, however these were very wide lanes.

It is now 3 lanes again, however, the middle lane has been given to one side only, which alternates each mile. It works very, very well, and is also very safe

Simply overtake all the trucks, pull back in, by the time you have caught more of them up, its time for your overtaking lane turn again

Negative:

Silly Speed limits.

40mph on country lanes all over the place.

50 on wide, open fast single carridgway, I mean WTF?

On the plus side, didn't see a single scamera van

You were obviously in the wrong part of Devon (Exeter??)
Head down to South Hams and you will get miles of NSL A-Road without a scamera in sight.
Avoid the grockles, caravans and tractors and you'll be fine.

Raise your adrenalin by coming face to face with a Surreyite who doesn't know how to drive on roads with no white lines, can't reverse, no manners and drives in the middle of the road. I reckon S Devon is almost as bad as it can get in places. Especially around Bantham.

I used to drive that bit of the a303 when it was two lanes and drivers didnt know what to do on it... used to be interesting to say the least. There used to be regular games of chicken between drivers heading in opposite directions using the wide middle section...

I also know someone (not me) who took their 6 cylinder xjs up to 140 on that bit once in the early morning. I hope that was when it was in a better state than it is now!

1) "Surreyites" paid for the roads, so they can drive on all sides of them at the same time! 2) 4X4s don't need reverse and own the centre of the road.

(Adopted Surreyite ... who grew up on narrow country lanes)

I got a ing ticket on the A303 It cost me £60 to relearn that despite having 2 lanes the limit was 60 not 70 (got scamera'd at 69mph). It is only classed as a dual carriage way when there is a clear divide.

Yeah, Bantham is a PITA but not as bad as Challa/Chavvaborough or Wonwell IMO.

A few years ago a mate was stuck behind a caravan which had got stuck in one of the lanes around Ringmore. Bloody tourists, afraid of getting their near sides scratched by the hedges
