New camera photographs your face

Just seen on BBC East:
1) Brian Ladd, terminal spokesplod of Essex Scameras, saying that they made no profit from speeding fines. (What happened to hypothecation then?)
2) They now have a second camera, placed up the road, so that camera 1 takes gets your reg no and camera 2 gets your face.

But of course it was justified by mentioning catching car thieves. The moral is folks - if you're driving a getaway car, stick to 30 and you'll be fine.

I'm surprised they didn't try to justify their control freakery by saying it was to combat terrorism.

Actually there was an episode of Columbo where the baddie tried to get an alibi by driving past a speed camera with a photo of someone else over his face...

IIRC it was somebody else with a photo of the baddie over his face, Columbo got it by noticing there was no shadow from the nose.

IIRC, on the Washington (DC) Beltway, the HOV (>1 in car) lane is monitored by cameras. Some time after the cameras were installed, an operator noticed that many passengers looked alike. They were generally described as female and apparently singing ... with their mouths open and their arms thrust forward!
