My guess is they don't understand the difference between UK-spec and US-spec...which is odd as most "non-specialist" insurers do! If they're digging their heels in then I guess your only option is to take your business elsewhere - I've found the mainstream insurers are no more expensive for C6s than the so-called specialists, and indeed the specialists seem unable/unwilling to provide business cover these days (which rules them out for me).

Bringing this very useful thread bang up to date and relative to the origional.
Being a previous C4 Corvette owner I have just updated from a 2000 C5 Corvette to an 07 C6. My well known specialist insurer ( who will remain nameless at the present time) , whom I have been with over some years are adamant that their recommended sub contractor needs to visit me and fit a Thatcham approved UK alarm system !!!! At considerable expence to me.
The 07 C6 is Euro spec vehicle, supplied new from Stratstones and was a one owner car.
Nobody is coming anywhere near my car with a pair of wire snippers !!
But it would appear that in 4 days time my vehicle will be uninsured. NICE

I am in the process of trying to get confirmation letter from GM that the sophisticated system of alarm, immobilizer and keyless entry system is equal or in excess of this requirment.
I would not be opposed to having a tracker system fitted as that only needs a power supply. But rummaging about in the very sophisticated alarm and immobilizer saystem of a modern Vette is a non starter ( and probably will be too )

Any advice out there from you guys would be appreciated.
All retrofit alarm systems on C6's have proven to be a disaster. Doubt you will get anything in writing from GM because they tend to bump these matters on to me. Insurers are well aware that a Euro spec. Corvette has a Thatcham rating as this information is readily available from Thatcham. Rather poorly they differentiated between US and Euro cars by listing them as 'Stratstone' models.....

Below is the Thatcham listing I found on the internet showing that "UK dealer supplied" Vettes from May 00 are Cat 1 compliant. Evidence to show to your potential new insurer?

http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/P...

I insured my recently acquired (Euro spec) C6 through Aviva, having done an HPI report on the car which came with 7 days free Aviva "drive away" insurance/cover note. To get the Aviva 7 day cover I had to phone a guy in India or Sri Lanka who asked all the questions needed to give you a quote for a full years cover. This included 1) Is it a Stratstone or Victory Corvette model? 2) What is the make of the alarm/immobiliser system? After approx 45 minutes on the phone, including him phoning/referring to the underwriters several times, I appeared to have persuaded them that the car has an OE Cat 1 compliant alarm/immobiliser.

I then received the policy documents containing a clause stating that the vehicle is not covered for theft unless an "Aviva approved security product is fitted/in operation within 30 days of the start of the policy." So I sent them a follow-up email asking them to confirm that they agree that the car is Cat 1 compliant, and that no further security measures/devices are required. Their email response was "We are happy to accept that you verbally confirmed the security on the vehicle and we will not require the proof of this." Not an entirely satisfactory reply and the expressions "sitting on the fence/putting the ball in my court" spring to mind. One thing is for sure, I will be printing out a copy of this thread for the cars history file.

John, pardon me for being nosey but which C6 did you purchase? If it is a Victory Red car that we have sold previously my memory is nagging me that it may have a Tracker fitted...... I may be wrong though, too many cars, too few working brain cells.

Sorry Mitch only just picked up on your comment here. No, mine is Black on black Covertible 07. No sign of a tracker . Mind you could be in there somewhere..

As a further update to this thread. It seems that most Insurers now accept a tracker fitted to a U.S. spec vehicle in lieu of an aftermarket Thatcham 1. Which is a step in the right direction. As I said previously, Nobody should go anywhere near a modern Vette with a pair of wire snippers. Unless they have a masters degree in electronics and agree to have a grenade strapped to them for 12 months giving the owner a pull cord should it go wrong !!
