First Impressions of a MY2017 GT

I had a budget of £40k for a fun car. I looked at the usual contenders, but nothing really appealed to both me and Mrs Eldar. We'd owned a 1988 5.0 GT Mustang a good few years ago.

I wasn't really considering another one, but Mrs E wanted to look at one for 'old times sake'. So off to the dealer, looked at the 2017 & 2018 models. Ecoboost wasn't in the running at all, had to be a V8.

The 2017 version won, within budget with auto metallic grey, premium sound/gps etc.The 2018 with another 35BHP, 10 speed auto and LED lights was too pricey, given the discount on the 2017 in stock and correct spec.

So, first impressions.

Negatives - Build quality is a little off, a couple of rattles and loose trim need sorting under warranty, nothing serious. Visibility isn't good, the long bonnet and rear 3/4 take a bit of getting used to. The dash is a bit American, hardly surprising, but not really intuitive.

Positives - well equipped, climate control works very well, sound system very good, DAB works properly. Comfortable to drive, plenty of seat/wheel adjustment.

Easy to drive around town, stick it in normal mode and it is controllable and civilised. No problems, fast, fairly discreet and civilised.

Ramp up to sport+ and it becomes aggressive, responsive and fun. Track mode is even more fun, but is probably a little too unforgiving unless you are a fan of slightly random power induced oversteer!

So, overall? Probably one of the last large capacity N/A V8 muscle cars. Fast, thirsty, uncomplicated and distinctive. You either get it or you don't, who needs a smoke the rear tyres mode or a speedometer proudly labelled 'Ground Speed'.

It is a very fast car, with civilised handling and a baseball cap worm backwards. For the price of a posh Mondeo plus £6k.

Wouldn't suit a bank manager.

Have you joined mustang6g yet , PH is a bit dead on the mustang front , I've got a shadow edition arriving in 2 weeks, I was looking for something used but the discount and 0% made it now or never

Down to just over a week now, it's currently being undersealed in Zebrugge though as I'm hoping to keep it for a long time I might get the dinitrol out on it and fill every gap I can see.

Cannot recommend that highly enough - the undersealing on mine was non-existant. There are also lots of gaps and raw edges, especially around the front wings, that are crying out for treatment. I had mine waxoyled back to the stone age.

I'm still deciding on which treatment to give it, I have read that Ford are doing cars under warranty if you moan enough but I'm not sure how good a job they'll do

I think Eldar has it spot on with his impressions.
I have only done 100 Miles in mine .
I thought it was fully loaded but it has no front parking sensors and gosh with that
long hood it needs them .
