C5 Z06 vs C6 base
Discussion
One of the biggest draws of the corvette was that I kept reading about their impressive reliability when compared to contemporaries.
Nothing worse than a fast car that doesn't even run properly.
(and the MPG isn't half bad either)
Could you email me - email address removed ? sorry.

Ive just got a quote off Adrian Flux for £650 ish for the Z06 which is a price im very happy with.
I ran a second quote for a standard C5 and the price was identical.
Thats not bad at all and part of me had assumed i would end up with a normal C5 due to insurance cost alone.
Edited to add : im 26 years old.
Further edit : i also paid for CCCUK membership.

Any updates on Z06 ownership OP ?
Many.I love it.
Initially I found the LHD difficult for B road overtaking and even changing lanes on the motorway/dc but have since gotten more used to it.
Ive done just under 800 miles when insured for 3000 pa so I need to be careful.
Before buying almost everyone was sceptical and suggested cars they thought would be more suitable, but ive taken my closest 5 car friends out in the car and had nothing but extremely positive comments (bar the "I couldn't drive LHD" comments)
The car has two issues. A worn anti roll bar link which I have bought but just need to fit (£60) and the very common fuel gauge not reading when tank is above half.
The number of looks from others is weird in some respects but rather nice in others, sitting in traffic makes me feel rather uncomfortable as though im an animal in a zoo.
All in all, I love it and can see me keeping it for a long (for me) time.
I just wish my garage was a bit wider as its rather tight.
The lowest MPG ive seen is 17 US mpg (22 UK mpg?) on a 6/10th hone around the Malvern hills
Highest is just over 30 mpg US (36 UK?) with max effort on MPG.
Mind blowingly good really.

We had a C5 and C6 in std form at the same time and i always took the C5 out in preference..
i much preferred the C5 to drive as it was less harsh, more GT, didnt make me feel sick either, which the C6 did for some odd reason, maybe the hud
Id pick the Z06 and play with it as its easy to get more power from to match C6

What was symptom of anti roll bar link? I noticed a creaking from rear end of mine when turning tight corners, had wheel bearings checked and they’re fine so was wondering where next to look..
I had to change all four of my ARB drop-links a while back, but there were no really noticeable symptoms, they just all had split/perished rubber and no grease left in the ball-joints.They can be got really cheaply, even for uprated items like MOOG. Have a look on Rockauto.com.
Also, really easy to change, so should be cheap, if you don't do it yourself.
Mine really improved the feel of the car, making everything tighter again.

The fuel gauge issue might be down to cheap fuel.
Sulphur i believe builds up on the sender and stops it working correctly.
Good fuel and an additive cleaner might make it work again.
So I hear. Sulphur i believe builds up on the sender and stops it working correctly.

Im on my second tank full with additive now. Hopefully it will fix it.

A metallic knocking noise mrobin33 said:
Interesting - it was changed this summer, after which I first heard the creaking. Maybe I should check what they put in!
I had my diff oil changed in my first Camaro by a 'GM specialist' and when it got warm it would make a metallic noise. Best of getting you own diff oil and appropriate additive and then getting someone to change it. I had a local garage do mine and they used a syringe to take the old oil out and add the new oil in plus the additive. Noise never came back.Think I got the diff additive from Demon Tweeks but its a long time ago now.
