There's this one if you like yellow (I don't particularly on the C6).

Not keen on yellow myself but could live with it as it's the Corvette racing team colours,

Not for everybody but they look good dressed with the official racing decals along with a sports

exhaust if not fitted,thumbup

I'm wavering as to whether to swap out my Z3M Coupe for a C6 Z06 or even a ZR1 if I could afford it.

Really enjoying the Z3M and haven't driven any C6.

The Red Z06 mentioned in this thread November 2021 is still for sale, or at least the advert is still up! Anyone know about this car?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108015...

There is also a lovely looking ZR1 listed on pistonheads for £44k asking at the moment.

My budget would be more in line with the red Z06 probably.

What's a Z06 like to own?

Awesome performance I presume, but what's it like to live with?

Super harsh ride and lots of road noise?

I had a Griff 500 before the Z3M Coupe, one of the good things about the BMW has been that it is both fun and usable.....

No not a super harsh ride but it is firm as in GT3 firm, they're not super noisy as standard & because of the long gearing they also make a great long distance I've used my uncle for three long trips from Fort Lauderdale to Vegas as well as a couple to Atlanta & it was a breeze.

Road noise is pretty good but on concrete sections the 345 rears (my uncle upped his tyre size on the front & rear) do make themselves heard.

The only reason he moved the Z06 on was because he drove a GT350R & that was it for the Vette.

The interesting thing about Corvettes is that when a new 'model' or engine comes out the whole car really steps up a grade or two. Take for example an early C5 Z06, a superb track focused version of the stock C56 that perhaps may have been too 'focused' for many buyers.
The last 'stock' versions of the C5 were later slightly upgraded from the earliest introductory model and perhaps performance wise for many a better choice than the Z06 version.
Similar thing with C6. The later cars (LS3 powered) whilst not as powereful as a C6Z06, again for many a far more 'useable' vehicle. The 'run-out' Grand Sport, effectively a LS3 'dressed' as a Z06 is considered by many to be the better car and very desireable.
Why not try one of the 8 speed auto C7's? - surprisingly quick, a real 'step-up' from the C6Z06 and a superb drive - IMHO equal to anything European. Finding any of these of course is another matter.

Interesting, I see your thought strategy.

I am quite tempted by a C7 or a decent late C6 of the right spec.

Both would offer the big advantage of the Targa roof, something that you don't get with the Z06.

I would want either to be a manual though, I drive an auto everyday so would want the extra interaction.

C7 prices have held incredibly firm, not sure whether I can stretch to one budget wise.

The vette is very easy to live with. It’s a massive step on in performance compared to the z. I used to own that particular car and currently have a Z4m so feel free to email me or something for wider thoughts on the matter.

Interesting reading. I skimmed most of it but read the Z06 bit.

I kind of came to wanting one the same way. No excel or comparing stats, but one day in 2019 I spotted one in the classifieds and thought that's a hell of a lot of car for the money. Prior to that I had been aware of them but nothing more. Now I really wanted one! Bit of research only made this worse. Since then I've saved some cash and watched the market.

Once my house move is sorted and the Z4m gone I’m seriously considering the zr1. My only reservation is that it has been for sale for years.

I can’t have that much money taking 6 months to a year to liquidate.

A good question would be who has sold a z06 recently. What did they get for it and how long did it take.

I see a few come up around 35k but do they sell!?

Is that the red ZR1 in Scotland? It's been on the market for a long time. Looks cheap compared to some of the Z06 that have come on recently. I prefer the idea of an NA motor personally.

It's hard to gauge the market. Felt for a while very few were coming on, been a bit better recently. Most are red annoyingly!

Yeah the one in Scotland.

Some coming in but are they selling? I suspect not as it seems the dealer for my old corvette has had it for a while too.

I bought this C6 ZR1 just after last Xmas.Having owned most Corvettes from a C2 to C5,s this was a real eye opener.Coming from a tuned GTR I wasn’t expecting the performance this ZR1 offers, they really handle great and the carbon brakes are excellent.I saw the red one for sale that’s been around ages,it just sounds so cheap compared to others in the states.I only know of 5 in the UK an they’d don’t come up for sale very often.

That is awesome. That is my favourite colour I think too.

How does it compare to the z06?

Does anyone know the history on the red zr1? It’s high mileage and arse end of Scotland which I guess puts people off?

I was tempted to buy a 2006 ZO6 but after reading lots of forums stating head and valve problems I gave it a miss.My ZR1 came up for sale at a local classic an sports car dealers,it is one that was registered from new by Bauer Millet. The car drives great,I was a bit concerned about it being manual but the clutch and gear change are really smooth and the engine has so much torque. The ceramic carbon brakes are fantastic I really can’t fault the car.Unfortunately I now need a four seater so I’m on the look out for a ZL1 Camaro so this has to go.

Thanks, I enjoyed reading that!

One of my worries about a Vette is that it will be too wide to enjoy on backroads, especially with LHD.....

I've read that the Z06 is awesome, I did go and look at the Red Z06 that has been advertised for ages, in the midlands. 2006 car.

The badges were faded and the paint was quite rough, scratched, corroded wheels etc. It also didn't have much service history. I did trace it all to an past owner or two on here I think.

When it started up though I went weak at the knees! No opportunity to drive it though....

So not the one for me.

A few more Z06's advertised recently in the 35-45k bracket. A couple very highly modified etc

I'm still tempted and might advertise the Z3M Coupe for sale next month, not sure.

Was the ride of the ZO6 Back Breaking?

The red ZR1 looks lovely, I'd be tempted to consider the Zr1, as someone else said, less reported issues with the engine. I've also read the ZR1 handles just as well but with a smoother ride/better all round car, chuffing quick but maybe a bit more usable than a Z06...?

Alternatively I might set off in a different direction and go for old school muscle again, a 50's/60's car, something very different.

I don’t recall the ride being harsh at all to be honest. Certainly better than the Z4m which manages to be crash and wallowy at the same time.

There is such an aftermarket scene you can make it handle however you wish.

In hindsight the oversized tyres I put on mine were a mistake for British roads. I should have under tyred it and enjoyed the handling smile
