Hi I have been listening to this forum for a while now and I think its ok. I have a question, which are the 3 quickest corvette’s out of you lot? I mean anyone can say my car should do this or that but have any of you tried it e.g. 0-60, ¼ mile (time and speed) and top speed (if you have the bottle). If you have tried it you can tell me what the outcome was.

You aren't the same 'The Stig' who is a member of the UK GTROC, are you?

You said:

top speed (if you have the bottle).

That sounds misleading - as if someone can only have top speed if they have the bottle - not true. Top speed is when the car's engine output matches with the total output (or something similar to that).

Anyway, I'd say that ZR1415's car is the quickest in a straight line. It has 700bhp, which is more than anyone else here.

In my '02 Coupe I'm the slowest of the Basingstoke posse with the following times:

0-60 in 4.65 seconds
Quarter mile in 13.026 seconds at 109.84 MPH
1.25 mile top speed run at Elvington 162.6 MPH

The Chevy claimed top speed of 175 MPH is accurate. You get a considerable increase in wind noise above 150 but the car remains smooth and stable. Having seen the maximum speed achieved question raised on US boards I'd say that 98% of Corvette owners have never maxed out their cars. Most seem to bottle out between 120 and 140, wimps !

Joe has the fastest measured quarter mile time that I've seen from a roadgoing UK Corvette - 12.2 seconds

Z064life - ZR1415's 700 gg's is substantial and probably is the most powerful naturally aspirated, though I don't know if there are any other 415's lurking on our shores.
But I do know of another ragtop C4 that has been blown and sprays. The owner, don't know if he still owns it, claims a theoretical max of 900 BHP with everything open while on the other hand, a certain nameless individual with initimate knowledge of the car will not confirm this number.

Dear Mr. Stig,

I did TOTBII and Trax 2003 and did the following best times.

0-60 4.3 Secs
1/4 mile 12.66 secs
Top speed in 1.25 miles from a standing start 169.4 MPH.

This is in a stock 2003 Z06 Corvette.

I am impressed with these times achieved my these three cars and vetteheadracer has acheived very good times for a stock car. So are these three the fastest, i have heard all this rant and rave about this so called 700 bhp car but where are these times.

STIG has spoken

ZR1415 sent his car to a shop to get the magical 700bhp, but he is yet to get the car back as work is still being done on the car, so he can't get any times recorded.

Hey Stig, having seen ZR1415's completed engine (now a 427 as you know) yesterday and witnessed the impressive weight loss program the car's going through I'd say your new year present from us is going to be an extra large portion of humble pie unless you want to eat your crash hat instead.

Remember some people ARE all talk (99% probably) but ers have actually have their car in the workshop being built at this very moment.

No hard feelings Stig, it's just I've got used to joe public telling me how "yanks don't handle" and that their "Cavalier SRi will blow your Corvette's doors off" Yeah right................So much knowledge out there, wish I had some of it

That "ers" in the above post is supposed to be "others". Sorry about the mistake, I was dreaming about a bit of bench racing at the time

My '98 Z28 was "only" capable of a 13.8 at 105mph but without the benefit of traction so the runs at Avon Park had to be done with a roll off the line and only when it had grip could I floor it.

However, I'm quite happy with 13.8 "out of the box" and will be going back with some wider lower profile tyres to improve the launch.

Can't say I've ever had any problems with really needing it to be faster and I'll be supplementing it next year with another Camaro or a C5. Sure, there are cars out there that can run 12's but if it wasn't a Camaro or a Vette and someone left it on my drive, I'd have to get the Council to remove it. If I wanted a car with a picnic table on the boot, I'd have bought a hamper.

Oh and top speed. Never found anywhere to try that out but it was more than happy pulling well over 140mph before other traffic got in the way.

What was the best et and speed for zr1415 on previous engine, and what was the flywheel bhp?

The owner's planning to take 600-700 lbs out of the car which is pretty significant. Probably not on the road yet because it takes longer to build (the world's only?) 427 LT5 engine, source, fit and paint carbon fibre body panels, and uprate brakes and suspension than it takes to talk about it.

Anyway that's all I want to say about someone else's car.

There's always the alternatives if you want to just go out and buy 600+ BHP in a stock car, most of them I believe are over £300,000. Really what do Porsch and Mercedes take us for?

With The Stig driving the cars in context/question. And of course, timeslips and dyno sheets MUST be produced.

I may as well add that I have a 1200BHP Z06 with twin turbos (Turbonetics), built bottom end (forged and cryogenically frozen internals), 75 shot of n20, and a whole host of goodies. 60MPH, on street legal tires, comes about in 2.5 secs, and the magical 1/4 mile comes about in about low-to-mid 9s.

Hey!!!

I'm still new here but I thought we're all supposed to be friends. A wind up is a wind up, but when it gets personal that's not very nice.
Let's keep cool and be nice.
