are any of you guys investing in slicks or drag radials,i know the mph some of the zr1s are pulling (well over 120mph in 1/4)is impressive , if your out for quarter of a mile times spend some money on traction devices and i bet you will all run 11s with ease.power is important but equally important is traction you will be surprised just a slight improvement in 60ft will make a lot of difference at the top end but it also gives you a true indication of the mods you do how much improvement you get, as each time your launch will be consistant so it is a fair comparison.
Brett - I have no wheels here in Moscow. But, my driver who has a Merc is running those metal studded tyres which is the norm over here during the looong winter.
Blown5.0 - I haven't looked at slicks or drag radials (but I am interested) due to virtually zero opportunity to put the car on the track. I will say that 1/4 mile activity will be kept to a minimum for now as the stock ZR-1 drive train is not the strongest IMHO when it comes to the demands of the drag strip. Now race circuits, well that's a whole other ball of wax.

I agree with you on the tyres Blown5.0 and at the moment am looking into a lightweight wheel/tyre combo infact a few of us are(a decent wheel manafacturer would make a few bob out of us if you know one).
I maybe over winter allowing time/money try to rose joint some of the rear suspension as ive also heard this helps,,have you found any gains or have any advice in this area.

Blown5.0, I have drag radials (Nitto 555R)on my '90 ZR-1. They improved my 1/4 mile times by about 3 to 4/10ths. IMO drag radials are essential for the 1/4 mile.
Even with them, there is enough torque on my Z to spin the wheels off the line and I agree with you, if you haven't maximised traction, you aren't making the most of what you've got. I am thinking about trying a set of MT ET Streets when I've worn out the drag radials, plus a couple of other tricks I have up my sleeve.
As you say terminal speeds in the 120's equate to an 11 sec ET when opimtimised for drag racing. The problem with the ZR-1 is that it is too heavy, too much weight is at the front and the IRS is not good for weight transfer. These things will always be limiting factors in the end for a ZR-1, it's just not designed for drag racing. Of course you could fit a live rear axle, fit an auto tranny, etc, but IMO you'd end up ruining a good car.
After all, ZR-1's (and C5's) are one of the few street cars that can run 12's stock, pull 0.9 g in the twisties and top out at nearly 180 mph, so it's the best of all worlds, really.
I'm sure that JenkinsComp and CamaroSS could give a lot better advice about drag racing.
For 'the Stig' : Best 1/4 Mile - 13.13/109 mph (stock)
Top speed: 70 mph (and 50 on a single carriageway).

Does the reaction time make any difference to the final time/speed, also what is a good 60ft time? what does aka mean? zr1427.
Some drag strips and their equipment only time the car since it starts to move, so it doesn't matter if you sit for 10 minutes after the lights go green (this is the reaction time) - if you still get to the end of the 1/4 mile in 8 seconds, despite not making a move ASAP and sitting for 10 minutes, you will get a recorded 8 second 1/4 mile time. The reaction time doesn't include any timing from when the car gets in motion.
Some drag strips, and their timing equipment, do take into account the reaction time in the final 1/4 mile time, so if you start moving 1 second after the lights go green (staging lights I think they are called), but get to the end in 8 seconds, then you will get a 9 second ET (Elapsed Time).
A good 60ft time would be mid 1s, or even lower (which isn't easy and is rarely done).
AKA means Also Known As.

Also i have a "classic american" magazine at home and on the front cover it says "run for shelter its a lingenfelter" and a picture of a green corvette. Is the owner on this forum? if so what sort of times has this car posted?
What Corvette was this car? C5? I haven't seen any green C5 Corvettes, or any green Corvettes (any gen) from LPE. The only green Corvette (tuned) I've seen is a green one (obviously) with black 18 or 19" wheels - and that was by Mallett (sp?) or another tuner. The car was called Greenhornet or something.
I'm not aware of anyone on this forum who owns a Lingenfelter-tuned car.
been bracket racing for 3 years in c4 vette and came runner up in door slammers 2002 with a full weight 5 liter mustang with small et streets it would 60ft in 1.60 seconds with only lower trailing arms, weight is an issue but not as much as you think, we are good buddys with a lot of surrey muscle guys and they are running mid to very low 10s at well over 3600lbs, et street are now not good enough so im moving on to 26 x 10 x15 et drags and new pulley on blower will on a prepped track make a 10 second pass at over 123mph with a 5 speed tremec, you have just gotta drive a stick like you want to break it.We do all tuning ourselves and engine building ect as we found nobody in Uk that could do it properly and things like wide band o2 sensors not reading right.no wonder why so many modded cars go bang.

From what i hear, ZR1's all look the same, they all perform pretty much the same too !
Get yourself a Mustang and put a smile on ya face........495 hp and 499 ftlb of torque...out of the box...avalible at your Ford dealer today !
Who needs 4 cam multi valve engines anyway, more to go wrong, especially when you've had them tinkered with !
