Try ACI or C5West for a C5-R like rear spoiler.

With so much enthusiasm for modding Vettes I've been wondering how I can change the look of mine without making permanent alterations to the bodywork or mechanicals. The first "C5 Torino" perhaps....

I think anyone has the right to do what they like with their own cars but for me, I always wonder what such cars will be worth when it comes to selling them and if anyone will buy them at all given that such cars don't sell like hot cakes anyway.

Just remember to keep your insurers up to date. A big wing might make the car more attractive to juvenile joyriders (that's not an insult BTW, it's a recognition that spotty youths like spoilers).

Actually I have been wondering what effect spoilers have on top speed as mirrors and even a radio aerial can cause drag.

There used to be a lot of debate about the effect the optional wing had on the Lamborghini Countach. One magazine swore they couldn't get the old Lambo to exceed 155mph with the wing. Mind you they could only get 170 out of it without the wing which shows you how lame they were. Probably as good at driving as Cl*rkson. Did anyone see him corner his SL55 on a track? Anyone could have done better with a '59 caddy!

I just HAD to change my Euro mirrors before Germany.[/quote]

Its me age Malc, I get me commas and dots mixed up these days!

Did you take a look at any of the other tech stuff on the site? I especially like the Mulsanne straight trap speeds, one M Schumacher at 248 mph and the old WM Peugeot at 251mph in 1988 are particularly impressive, can't imagine taking the Mulsanne kink without lifting the throtte at that sort of speed. God I love sportscar racing!!

Yeah, I had a good look through the site - I was looking for something that specifically compared top speeds and coefficients of drag with or without a wing.

Some of teh published rtace car CDs seemed unusually high to me, as did that new Porsche (sorry don't like it) and even the Ferrari 360 seemed to have a high CD - made me wonder if there are different ways of measuring as I wouldn't expect a modern Ferrari to have a CD of 0.34?

I thought even an '84 vette and '85 Firebird were more slippery than that?

Be interesting to compare the same car, with or without a wing and vary the wing's angle of attack and even compare wings of different areas (for drag, lift, and downforce effects) though I guess that is part of racecar development.

Guess when it comes to streetcars looks rather than science sells..

...how many times have you heard "I got the biggest cam, the biggest throttle body, the race chip, highest boost...

"...and less power than stock 'cos you didn't know what you were doing!"
