You may need to remove the entry in your hosts file from earlier in the year.

Blatchat has a new ip address.

Depending on your operating system your host file can be found at:

Windows 95/98/Me c:windowshosts

Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:winntsystem32driversetchosts

Windows XP Home c:windowssystem32driversetchosts

(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP

The file doesn't have an extension, so find the file, right click on it and open it with notepad

Delete the line with Blatchat in it and then,

Save the file. Windows 2000/XP will use the file immediately, Windows 98/ME/NT will probably need restarting. In some cases you may have to save the file as "hosts.txt", if you do have to, once it's saved, rename it "hosts" ie so it has no extension

Hi Julian,

Blatchat has not yet gone "closed shop" yet, but Barry has been moving it to some new servers (it was back working ok yesterday). He did have a problem with the 7FAQ in that it was asking for a user ID and password, and he was working on a fix gor that.

Blatchat.com is now asking for a user name and password, so I guess that Barry is working on the hole problem at this time.

Doug,

Well I've tried everything Martin suggests and I can't find a reference to Blatchat in any host files whatsover. I'm using XP Professional - perhaps I need administrator access (which I don't have)....

Any other suggestions? Is there an ip address I can enter straight into the address field to get Blatchat up. Please help....I can't go on like this without a fix

Why didn't Barry Sweeneny have the sense to post on Blatchat before making these changes? I am a Club member after all

So it's not just me that's getting the password screen then?...

BC was working Friday morning after the changes had been made and before Martin posted his hints, so I guess this current problem is not connected with the issues that Martin's posting was looking to solve?

I'm also getting the password screen, although everything was working fine last night.....will just have to wait and lurk around here for a bit longer!

Dipstick - a posting where? here? or Blatchat? (don't forget I couldn't access Blatchat this morning and ergo would have been unable to read any posts there at all!!!!).

Anyway normal service is resumed and I'm happy I don't have to involve my IT support person in sorting my PC out

Ruby, it was on Blatchat a couple of days before; Barry announced that they were moving servers and there might be disruption. I don't think he would have put it on here, why should he?
