Freestyle inboard front suspension
Discussion
Not caterham but I ran a RH s7 for about 12 years with in board suspension ,initialy it was as stiff as a board after some research I came across info from Dave Andrews who ran a similar car ,he suggested much softer spring rates from the factory 180 lb one fitted and the removal of the a/roll bar I dropped rate by 30% to 120 lb the difference was amazing , proper feel good turn in etc I know an RH is a world away from caterthings but it worked for me and quite a few others . Its the same Dave Andrews who is the k series guru a very respected engineer, Ihope this helps
I serviced a set of 3 way Nitron's from a Freestyle set up recently. The spring rates on that set were 250lb.
Taking into account the Wheel Rate on the Freestyle set up compared to the regular set up it was not to far out - not worth upgrading or softening in the first instance. The first job was to get the valving spec correct as that is where much of the firmness was coming from similar to the standard Nitron set up.
We did however soften the rear springs as these were 175lb. To stiff.
The lb age you are talking about going to sounds to soft for my liking and we try to run as soft a spring as possible. Its all about matching springs/wheel rates/wheel frequency and valving in the damper.
