Has anyone experience this starting problem.
Engine turns over from cold absolutely fine until Excelerator is pushed a few times to inject fuel but then stops dead and struggles through a couple of turns then starts no problem
Car is VX 1.8 8 valve on 40's
Starter checks out as well as the battery and alternator.
Problem Is the same when starting from hot and is only apparent when throttle is pumped even once.
I have been told the starting with webbers can be a little temperamental and have tried between 1and 4 pumps on throttle.
It seem that once the fuel gets in the cylinders it starts to stuggle until it starts

Maybe just to much fuel causing it to flood and stall,
Have u tried to just feather the throttle i.e. Just hold part throttle while turning key,
And only 20% while warming the engine, 40s can be very sensitive to over fuelling

Thanks for the reply..after trying different ways of pumps on the throttle it seems that any more than half a pump on the throttle is to much.. it responds to only a slight pump before engaging the starter.

40s are always like that. I had them on my sumbeam lotus, I could only touch the throttle to start it, if I didn't catch it first time
I would have to wait 5 min and try again. They flood very easily.
But once hot they sound fantastic
