I'm finally nearing the end of an expensive rebuild on my 2005 1.6k K series 7 however I clearly didn't take enough pictures of the wiring!

Can anyone check their engine earth strap and confirm where it is connected from too (I would be very grateful)? I think it just needs the 30 cm lead bolted to the right side engine mount, I assume under the chassis so it has a good metal contact (scrape away the paint?). The other end under the one of the bolts that attaches the mount to the engine should do it?

The car is completely dead at the mo so I'm guessing I don't have a good enough metal contact. The lead is currently bolted above the chassis rail on the right hand mount so I think I just need to move this to under the rail to get a better metal contact?

Thanks for your help in advance, its been 13 years since I last built a 7 and I have remembered nothing!

Hi - there is an earth strap from the RHS engine bracket to the mount rubber on the chassis rail. The strap can be on top of the mount rubber flange as long as the paint has been cleaned off, and equally there has been some paint removed from the chassis rail where the mount rubber connects to it.

You'll also need the earth strap from the negative on the battery to one of the starter motor bolts.....otherwise nothing is connected to the battery negative.

I have the build manual for that vintage if it helps.

Thanks Charles, I think I need to ensure a better connection to bare metal and hopefully that will sort it
