Does anyone know this R400?

...and is the airbox upgrade through the cut hood a desirable upgrade or not (I presume this is "aftermarket" as I can't find many photos of duratec R400s with this) when it comes to resale down the road?
Does it otherwise look "standard" for a 2007 R400?

I don’t know the car but I can confirm the following for you.
The reason this looks different from most R400’s you’ve probably looked at is because it’s got the roller barrel throttle body upgrade that can be added to them. This modification necessitates that the bonnet have a hole cut it in as the throttle bodies protrude out the side of the bonnet. A lot of examples of this simply have a foam air filter covering the trumpets. In this cars case it’s got the track day air box that is available from Caterham. Search on the Caterham parts site and you’ll find it if you look hard enough. They cost about £370 and yes they are sought after. Primarily this is because of their ability to quieten down the car. With just the foam air filter you get quite a lot of induction noise which can be a problem on track days. I can also tell you that at least one of the cars previous owners obviously wanted to use it on track as this one has also got a non-standard RaceCo silencer on it. These are better (and a bit larger) than the Caterham ones at reducing noise to an acceptable level. They aren’t cheap. I know this as I’ve just bought one myself this week.
Noise is your main issue once the car is on throttle boddies and this one has had both of the things done to it to reduce it back down to an acceptable level. It’s a tried and tested approach so I’d see these as a plus.
I think it’s probably also worth saying that with the upgrade to throttle boddies, this car will be producing a little more BHP then the add proposes. They state 212 but I think it’s more likely to be in the 220hp range.
Hope that helps,
Tom

That’s my old car! I know it very well. Owned it from new for 10 years before selling it last year as I wanted an R500 with sequential. If you want to know all about the car and it’s history, send me a private message and I’ll fill you in!
Email sent! I'm hoping to go and see this next weekend......Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
