Amazing what you learn online - now last years 60th at Donnington finally makes sense.
Its good to know Caterham are finally distancing themselves from the Lotus 7 brand [after 45 years!] IMO The C7 they manufacture is plenty good enough to stand alone and on its own merits thumbup - all we need now is for the people running the L7 club to acknowledge this fact and change their club name accordingly - Suggest you don't hold your breath on this happening anytime soon thoughsmilesmile
>
Any L7 owners wanting to form a Friendly, informal and active L7 'Drivers' type club, run by L7 owners for other like minded L7 enthusiasts feel free to mail me through PH, we got all winter to sort out details.
Many agree with you that a name change is appropriate. I was a diehard Lotus man myself , despite owning a Caterham and voted for retention of the Lotus name . As did the majority .

If asked again my vote might be cast differently , but that is beside the point- it would be quite wrong if a change were now made without another vote . The team running the club (who are just normal members who volunteer) may well ask again in future, I don't know , but you don't ignore a vote .

I wish you could ignore some other, non car related, votes though ....

I agree, I jumped from page 1 to this page, V7SLR sussed Trackdaytroll on page 1. Somewhat old and outdated trollop material ... yawn

I seem to recall that about 10 years ago a guy names Terry from Canada was given a bit of a rough time on Blatchat when he admitted to partaking of an 'alternative lifestyle' or something very similar, it can't have been the same Terry can it Trackdayguy? He was involved in some way with the selling and/or development of of Busa engined SV Sevens for the Canadian market, if memory serves?

He got a bit of a roasting and went very quiet after that, and I often wondered what had happened to him, he seemed a nice guy too.

How are comments like this helpful ????

Seems like some of the smart arse L7C members have found another platform to manifest their toxic behaviour.

Has JK been banned? Have the MT finally realised he's a key cause of desertion?

Of course he hasn't - JK is a lovely guy who has helped countless members , despite the occasional knuckle dragger being rude about him . The same sort of idiot who moans about lack of posting, and then moans about somebody who does .

Having not had a 7 almost 4 years I do miss it. The club? Well it’s like the proverbial curates egg. Anyway I have a 911 now which involves the are you of the air or watered bickering. laugh

Bloody hell! Has it really been 4 years Toby? Time clearly accelerates the older one gets. Didn't realise that you'd replaced the MX5 too. I replaced mine with an RF with lowered suspension, which is good fun, but still have my Seven - although I don’t seem to use it much these days.

To answer the OP's question - the code of conduct works most of the time, but some individuals flout it, and it isn't enforced - so it's a bit pointless really. The forum seems to have become a bit stale recently, with a very limited number of posters, and there doesn't seem to be the breadth of knowledge of any subject under the sun that there used to be.

The most active threads consist mainly of Guardian reader outrage, which is quite amusing, although a bit tedious, and the concept of banter seems to go over the heads of those who take themselves far too seriously. It's just not the fun place that it used to be any more, which is a great shame.

I left L7C recently. It wasn't one particular issue that did it but just a culmination of things really which left me feeling that they just wanted my money.

1. The name is odd but not the end of the world for a few more years. Maybe post 2020 or 2025 they won't have a choice. I can't say I would put an L7C sticker on my car as my car is a Caterham not a Lotus. Same goes for the Mechandise.

2. BC had hardly anyone posting and so whilst a reasonably good resource it had nothing new. I use the resource FoC now. If I need to ask a question I use the fantastic FB sites. New BC looks and works fine, it is the lack of posting which is an issue.

3. The money spent showing that a bigger bar with cross members is stronger than a smaller one without cross members was utter lunacy. I felt it was disrespectful to the members to spend money trying to cut 70% (Guesstimate) of the members out of member track days. Should have spent the money on a lawyer to overturn the stupidity of the original decision.

4. The refusal to show members the letter from CC suggested we were not worthy of the facts.

5. A big fuss was made by the MB to say it wasn't the name they impacted on the split but then it transpired that it was one of the reasons !!!

6. The constant CC bashing by a few people who were once sent the wrong bolt back in 1976 !!!! Grrrrr, get over it. Judge them now. My car is a Caterham and I would rather they were involved and they never will be whilst the constant CC bashing takes place.

7. I found I could get the same discounts just by waiting for the right time.

8. I found a few people who raised issues about say BC, CC, the name, Rollbars, MB were immediately ganged up on. All a bit controlling in my view.

I doubt my lack of posting is a loss to them but I haven't missed being part of L7C. The people I did meet were really nice. That said petrol heads usually are.

Welcome to the PH Caterham site.

Your story is not dissimilar to the many others circulating. I left the L7C back in 2014, got sick of all the smug and toxic comments, fortunately for the club I hear most of those unpleasant individuals have moved on, let's hope they dont find their way here, although I'm aware that some have.

Happy Sevening

Terry

I am struggling to identify with a number of the comments here. I'm a relatively new L7C member and I can't say I have any experience but good ones? Yes some of the conversations and topics on BC are either not in my sphere of interest or in my capacity of understanding, so those ones in don't read. But, loads of great information, loads of help and plenty to keep me interested. Met (virtually and face to face) loads of great and interesting people and got a great local scene building, have absolutely no issues with the conduct on there or locally. As for your comments about either the MT or members ganging up, don't get it, definitely not something I see. I've had many a difference of opinion and find in those circumstances people to be engaging, yet challenging, but done broadly with respect and a willingness to discuss rather than the usual online nonsense. I think this may be one of those things that "you get out what you put in"? And don't think I'm some quietly sittting in a corner fanboy of the club, giving deference to their every word, I'm not, I just don't believe that everything in this thread rings true.
