Hi all,

I'm scratching my head about colour and decal choice for a new kit- I wondered what people think are coming into fashion and what are peoples opinions on 'must avoid' colours etc for any future resale?

I think you've misunderstood what I'm after. I want some inspiration mainly but also any opinions on bad choices. Any colours known to fade would also be useful!

The advice I was given when in your position is still valid... 7s are low and quicker than other road users realise. To avoid near-misses (or worse) go for a bright visible colour.

When my car was reskined/respainted earlier this year I went for Arancia Argos (was Ballistic Orange before) as I like orange!

Will it influence resale value? censored knows and I don’t censored care - it’s *my* car!

I’d definitely agree that bright colours are best, especially for safety. Mine is currently dark blue which I hate but it was bought used so I had no choice. It’s booked in for the end of September for a respray and I’m going with Renault Liquid Yellow and black decals and stripes.

Oh wow that looks amazing. How much does a respray cost on a 7?

Nice!

I went for “carbon” stripes too (just down the centre - nothing on the sides) - they look great.

My SLR was also dark blue (Lotus Azure Blue) and I hated it. I recently had it resprayed and looked at the current Porsche solid colours available for the 911, in the end I opted for Porsche Miami Blue, a colour I'd seen on a Porsche at Spa and it looked stunning. Bright solid colours are my preference to metallics but it needs a good paint shop to get a deep shine with a bright colour, preferably a clear gloss over base colour paint system which unfortunately i don't think Caterham's painters do for non-metallics.

It really doesn’t cost that much to re-spray a Caterham, non trade Circa £1500 at a Caterham specialist, flat colour, maybe more for stripes and nose and, maybe not... I had my heart set on a certain scheme, bought used, dealer got it resprayed at great price to my exact spec, so a sparkling new refreshed Seven was mine a few weeks later.

I bought for me. It’s mine. Not worried about resale. A lovely 7 recently sold in bright pink, I wouldn’t have bought it, but perhaps unsaleable colours roughly go for a re-spray cost below normal price?

£1500 is a pretty good price. I guess its because the panels come off quite easily? I would love to see a picture of the liquid yellow Caterham.

This looks stunning! great tip.
4 Porsche colors that ar on my want list and could also be applied to a 7 (to my taste..):
Petrol blue. Aetna blue. Leaf green. Brewster green.

Double D,

The Renault Liquid yellow with black stripes looks great doesn’t it? I must stress though that picture I linked to was a Caterham picture, not one of my car (yet). I’ve been told it’s going to be £2k+ to do as it’s a 3 stage paint, not a single stage and that paint protection film is a must as it’s being next to impossible to touch up any stone chips. I’ve budgeted £700 for the PPF so all in about £3k with the triple stripes. I don’t care it’s more expensive than a flat colour though as I like it and it’s what I want.

Love the Porsche blue on your car, absolutely stunning. I seriously considered that colour as it looks amazing.

As others have said - be under no illusion - tintops look at your quaint little 60's kit car and have little sense that its actually a missile and will be in there face the second they have pulled out.....

ALWAYS have your lights on....

Not sure about 'coming into fashion' as it's been a classic racing livery since the '60s, but I'll be ordering my 310R in Gulf Blue with a Ballistic Orange noseband and bonnet stripe...

I chose Porsche Riviera blue because it’s bright, (safety aspect, easily seen) and CC had used it on some 620s.

I went with white stripes instead of the orange CC had used; thought then, and still do, white looks better.

Really doesn’t matter though, most colours look good and you soon stop thinking about it.

Any chance you could post some images of the complete car in its Miami hue? Certainly the front end looks mega!
