according to all caterham owners, caterhams are manufactured to the highest possible standards and shout their praise at every opportunity, and absolutely no other company could do it better.
I just don't understand this negativity!! You absolutely must not question their quality or you will be demonised. If the car suffers a failure, it surely can't be a manufacturer fault.
I'm ordering a group purchase of rose tinted specs, perhaps some owners have lost theirs ..... so any takers ???
To make it absolutely clear to those who have read my comments, or even those that have not, I really do love these cars. I just hate the people that manufacture them. They don't deserve to own the brand or your custom.
I only see one solution to this problem. That they go bust and taken over by people who care.
I'm sure BertBert and crew will have some choice reply because he clearly identifies with those described in the first line and has his rose tinted glasses firmly superglued in place, so therefore dislikes me. I'm sure his comments in defence of caterham will be both strong and aimed at me in a derogatory way as you must not diss the manufacturer. Even though they could easily kill someone !
If you want to be annoyed, focus it on the makers who so obviously could do better. perhaps they are spending too much effort making wheelbarrows to cart away all your money !!

Moderator edit: no potentially defamatory comments please

Er......this defect nearly killed me so I would take issue with your first paragraph. It is patently obvious that my car was not built to the highest standards.

I think it's sarcasm from av8er.

Nice to get a name check by the way. And yes enjoying the normal nonsense.

ETA it's nonsense because caterham owners in general don't think how you say they think.

Er, I’ve had 3 caterhams, 5 Loti and 2 Aero 8s, all with their own faults, no rose tinted glasses here!
And the Porsches haven’t been perfect either!

so good he said it twice! And just to be clear on a few things.

Firstly I don't dislike you as how could I? I don't even know you.

Secondly, you are completely incorrect in your assertion about what Caterham owners think of Caterham. That must be so as you don't know what all Caterham owners think, how could you? As to what I think, again your assertion is wrong and not logical. Because I don't agree with your main claim, where is the logic that that is because I think Caterham can do no wrong? There just is no logical connection.

Caterham have clearly suffered from many quality issues over the years - it's a matter of public record. I don't think you'll find many current and past owners who think otherwise.

Hey av8er, have you been following the complete loss of electrics thread? Still think that all caterham owners assert they can do no wrong?

Super Naswan and Gareth h, have you both reported this to the DVSA?

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls-and-faults/repo...

The reason I ask is that, as with dedion tube failures, I suspect CC have told DVSA that only a very small number of cars are affected, and therefore convinced them there is no need for a recall.
Consequently they can "redesign" a part that they claim isn't is an issue and sell them to owners to fit themselves.

It really shouldn't need a fatality to get them to take responsibility for this design fault.

Imagine if one of you had been on an alpine pass and that happened, it would be more than a 10 foot drop!

PLEASE, anyone who has had this failure, report it to the DVSA immediately.

Yep, DVSA have referred it back to CC who I believe are changing the component for a redesigned item under warranty (on newer cars)
