For what its worth , my r400 registered 105 db at the noise test at Goodwood.

This is for a standard " road " car with standard short silencer and cat bypass pipe.

5000 miles from new.

yep, packing all gone after that sort of mileage i would imagine. My packing went in about 5 trackdays.

Definately, but the standard R400 silencer is re-packable.

Just for info - in March, I got measured at 110.6db

This was static @ 4500rpm by Javelin - my R400 is 6500miles/ 2yrs old, cat bypass, tho I suspect the meter was held right at the exhaust...

The R400 has 28,500miles non cat pipe, sound of things it may need repacking.

In addition, have any of you taken an R400 to Bedford? I'm seriously thinking of buying the Raceco exhaust as this seems to get the vote, but unsure which is the best to cure induction noise.

My R400 was measured 106db static at Oulton park, 108db at a Motorsport Events Airfield day (black flagged) and 105db static at Bedford (standard exhaust, re-pack within the last 500 miles and 3000 miles on the clock). I guess I just got a LOUD one! In the end I defected to Noble for relative peace and quiet (100db everytime!) but am now very tempted to return to a Cosworth powered R400. Is it likely to be louder or quieter than the K?

I found the restrictions at Bedford quite tight. They will give you one warning and a chance to quieten your car down but break the limit a second time and you're out.

I was having to keep my revs below 5k to stay under the limit although it does help if you know where the sound meters are.

My cars a CSR200 as standard, the exhaust is more bassy than the K-series engines and the noise seems to travel futher. The Bedford noise meters are 20metres away from the track (85db limit IIRC) so you may be OK.

A RaceCo exhaust is going to be my next winter upgrade.

Bedford was a washout, but we had an OK time in the morning. I had the Reverie airbox and Raceco 7.25" silencer fitted just in time and had a static reading of 100db at 4500rpm and they just passed me. I took it easy most of the morning learning the circuit and keeping the revs down so I didnt get black flagged, the afternoon was so wet that the car was slipping everywhere and I couldnt see out of the side or back windows, so I gave up. Anyway I will hopefully get much better weather next time and thank you all especially Bertie for all the help.
