I'm doing the 2007 academy season and I'm getting very frustrated during the build process as I still don't have a de-dion axle nor a roll cage anyone else having any problems?

also anyone else doing the 07 season who is situated in or around norfolk?

Hi Tel777. how is the build going?
I am just starting to sort things out to order the 2008 Academy car. very excited and trawling the '7 sites.
Very best of luck with it all. Are you photographing the build?

Nearly there with the build, a few small bits to do tomorrow morning and I'm ready to fire her up. Still havn't got my SVA date back but I've requested 1st week in March.

This build has been really enjoyable but equally frustrating. This year I feel Caterham have really been lazy with the assembly guide, they have changed the chassis to the metric one but given everyone the old assembly guide. The guide probably helps with 50% of the build but the rest you need to ask for advise and/or pictures and/or aditional assembly pages, that as well as many parts missing from small things like spacers to big things like the de-dion tube and roll cage all stop you in your tracks during the build.

I have probably lost 25 - 30hrs time on the car due to the confusing assembly guide and parts missing.

I was speaking to Gidian (I think that's how you spell his name) from Caterham a few weeks ago and he has just finish the new assembly guide for next year with the metric chassis and the sigma engine so you shouldn't have the same problems. I don't think that you will be able to take advise from past and present Academy car builders as it's all going to be different for you.

Thanks Terry, i wasnt aware they had changed chassis. I am very excited about getting the car now.
I can imagine waiting for missing parts must be so frustrating.
Good luck with the last few bits and im sure you will fly through the SVA.
I would love to see some pics when you have a chance.
All the best
Ed.

Steve - interested in the roll bars..... they tell me that I'd have to be trying really hard to wear out those van tyres in the Academy year - did you have a spare set for wet days????

Echo the above comments about the assembly guide - but then that's all part of the fun. Plus I enjoyed getting all those boxes of parts - it was like Christmas every week. The guys at CC have been very helpful in sorting out shortages / wrong parts, it's just a shame they have to do that (imagine how much better the bottom line would look if they got it right first time!)

Mine passed SVA today - so Happy Days!

Sorry John - didn't anser your question, I kept a set pretty much brand new for wet days and bought some part worn which seemed to go better in the dry.
I have a couple of sets of part worn if you wish.

Steve,I've bought a 2002 academy car and signed up to race in Supergrads with CGRC. only thing I'm missing is a transponder - the one fitted to the car is an old style Chronit not MST. If you have an MST 'Plumbed in style' transponder, I am interested

Help with starting my Acadamy car.

I am trying to start the car for the first time but all i'm getting is clicks from the engine and ecu a feint but high pitched constant beeb (whissle) from something. I have been trying to trace noises and there seems to be a feint humm from the altinator.

I do have the enertia switch disconnected but the car wont even turn over and there is 5 ltrs of petrol in.

I would call Dartford but it's the weekend.

Also I have been told different amounts for initial engine fill is it 6.5ltr (this is what I have done at the moment).

cheers tel

On any other car i would say that sounds like a flat battery. Clicks from the starter is a usual sign.
Have you turned the motor over by hand to chack all is free?
I believe the loom is clearly marked so hopefully no cock ups there.
Let me know if its the battery.

I have enough juice in the battery to use the lights, horn and wipers but maybe not enough to get the motor turning.

I'll try to turn the motor this evening and let you know.

Cool, get the battery fully charged or jump it off a nice big car. the difference i had when i helped a mate with his buggy was he had his BMW 318 jumping it but it just turned over. I put my Disco on it and away it went. this happened a few weeks later too. just the same.
Good luck tonight.
