So whats happening now? Is the motor turning over on the key?
If so, check for spark.
If not check immobilizer and starter relay.
Perhaps an earth wire is missing from the engine/starter. they take a huge drain and may not turn it over if it catn earth properly.

If you have a push button start check the wiring on the back could have been put on the wrong way round.
But sounds like it could be a bit more major. Have a talk with caterham but I know they had some faulty engine wiring looms which is why some academy cars were supplied with out them to start with.

Finally got it turning over moved wires, wiggled wires, turned engine and turned motor. A few big clicks/clunks (new noise) stood back scratched my head, tried again and she started turning over. So it seems that scratching my head works.

BUT, can't get any oil pressure, not even a flicker on the dial. I did start it up for a few seconds and stopped it again but still no oil pressure. This time scratching head didn't work.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Check the cable on the oil pressure sender as the connection is not always that good. Wiggle it about a bit then try again. Could also be the wires on the back of the gauge round the wrong way or not connected properly.

connection on the sender has just been taken off cleaned, put back and crimped th tighen it, but still nothing.

The connection on the guage is on tight. A light grey three wasy connector top left wire (as you look from behind the dash) is white with a brown line bottom wire is black or very dark brown can't quite tell. Is this correct?

Also I have a high pitched but feint beep/whissle from something (r/h of engine bay) but it sounds electrical. This stays on even when the key is taken out but goes off after about 10 minutes. Any ideas?

Wiring sound right but not too sure as i'm not looking at the back of a gauge at the moment.

The high pitched noice is from the injectors they all make this noice.

Good news obout the injectors I thought that there was something burning out or worse.

is there a change that I could have a duff guage? does this happen on caterhams, is it a frequant thing or never/not a chance?

Good news on the turning over. I would say try the sender before the gauge. Perhaps borrow a sender or hire an oil tester thingy.
Perhaps check the continuity of the wire from sender to guage.
Hope this helps.

I have a little black wire (same size and colour as the one from the back of the guage) comming out from the loom in the same area as the ecu temp sensor and the guage temp sensor but I have no corresponding connector, could this be the problem?

Is this the wire used on the oil press guage? I am a little confused from the description.

the black wire is to do with the stack dash if you have that fitted at a later date.

the wire is comming out of the loom just in front of the battery and would not reach the press guage or press sensor. It is just a wire which has no corresponding connector in its locality. It is the only wire which I can't determine it's point.

tel777 - I could be completely off the mark here, but there is a little black earth wire next to the ECU, it has a washer style connector on the end, and should be attached to one of the long bolts that hold the ECU mounting down. You dont mean this one do you?

If any one wants a set of part worn CR322s, drop me a line - make me an offer and pick them up from near Southampton

Hi Cuzza

What sort of money are you looking at for them, roughly how many miles have they done.

thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

Not sure on the mileage (they came with the car) but they've got about 4-5mm of tread left on them so would be fine for testing or dry use I'd have thought.

Money-wise - 12 cans of Stella and you can pick them up? beer

No not that one, the one i'm talking about is a single black wire but I've been told that it is for a stack dash option.

Does the wire with the washer style end go between the ecu and top of the bolt or the ecu and the car panel?

I seem to have continuity of current on the wires from the spade connector at the back of the guage and to the sensor so I am starting to think that I have a duff guage.

Hi Tel

Yes it is me. Hope you get over your build issues soon. Theres nothing more frustrating than being nearly there and having niggly little problems hold you up.

My car is ready and picking it up on Saturday so looking forward to that, will have to go and clear some space in the garage now.

Have fun.

Andy
