Just purchased an R500 and unloaded off trailer. Noticed sump very low. Does anybody have problems with speed humps etc and "bottoming out"??

Go VERY slowly over any harsh speed bumps. I find the ones that are just up and down with no length to them are the worst as the car straddles them.

I assume it's dry-sumed as it's a R500.

Go over speed bumps at an angle. Though the car should be OK.

How low's low?

Also, you should get used to looking out for general road road imperfections. Speed bumps aren't the only thing that can cause issues (where's ruby...).

They're low, but it shouldn't be scraping getting on and off the trailer.

Has it got adjustable suspension? It might need cranking up a little bit. Contrary to popular belief, it wont hurt the handling, in fact you'll be rewarded with more bump travel in the suspension, which should make it a bit more confident on bumpy roads

You could perhaps get it done with a flat floor setup.

I'd still take care over speed bumps though

You'd expect a dry sumped car to have more clearance than a wet sump, but if you're going on wet sumped cars, that doesn't sound particularly low

When i was at Caterham a few weeks ago i asked about clearence and they said the sump is(should be) 100 mm off the floor.

I think that's the min clearance required for SVA, but there are plenty of lower 7s out there.

Aim for a minimum 70mm at the front of the sump Graham.

Just got back from first blat. Didn`t have any "bottoming out" problems over the humps. Most difficult thing was driving it slowly in traffic. Jumping just like the R400 along the pit ane. Along the country roads??.....great!!! Lovely noise...........pops and bangs!!

sounds like it needs a remap or another ECU....
