biggest power in a caterham

Rob Walker built it for me (it was the second Duratec he had done at the time). We started ordering the parts in 2006 but the car wasn't finally registered until March 2007.This was due to problems with SVA and poor service/quality from companies that should know better. If all had gone to plan it would have been ready by June 2006.We were hoping to be the first duratec to hit the magic 300bhp but the tightness of the non-run in engine, the fact that the blowers weren't on at Emerald and the stale petrol got the better of us I'm afraid.Emerald seem to think that with a few thousand miles on the clock the car will get very close to that figure.I was disappointed that we didn't get 300bhp but in reality 280 odd bhp is very naughty (and the 07 plate suits the car!)
It's going very well thanks-very noisy though-even with a quiet cat can it was still touch and go whether it would pass the SVA.
Hows yours going?

Tightness of non-run in engine is no excuse - so was mine! I've never been back with the same spec engine to see if it gains with a bit of running though - all the good dyno operators are rather busy. Mine passes 105 static quite easily with airbox and exhaust, and even managed to sound quiet on the airbox side. But I'm sure a drive-by mike on the exhaust side would get upset, and sub 100 static would be impossible. The new 2.2 engine is great - power band from 4000 to 8500, and actually being able to use the top end power without hitting the limiter at all. See you at a trackday!
a race CSR 260 is geared to pull 154mph in 6th on the rev limiter. It will reach this given a long enough straight. Allow for a little tyre expansion at that speed and maybe its doing a couple of mph more. However the acceleration really tails off above 130'ish due to poor aerodynamics - ISTR drag is proportional to velocity squared. I suspect a huge increase in power would be required to get into the 160's and I would guess that around 170 is the effective Vmax irrespective of power - assuming a real world engine that can actually be slotted into a seven. Would be fun finding out though !

Sure - I agree Dave's car is. But mine isn't - it's primarily a track car, but also used on road. And it also beats Arnie in a straight line . Hardly a one trick pony...
Oh sorry, Danny, I totally misread Arnie's post - yours, by all accounts does indeed go round corners.FWIW I've only ever seen Arnie's on the road once at the 2001 Rumble and even then, I passed it parked up on the A12 and didn't see it again for the remainder of the event, so I've never actualy seen it running....
