... I don't think prev. posters were suggesting that they would be intimidated by the power - there's nothing intimidating about shredding rear tyres - but more making the point that the extra power would probably be unnecessary. Current MotoGP bikes are actually winding BACK the power - and going faster. I don't care how good the chassis is there comes a point where lack of rubber/weight/downforce will mean that you won't be able to hook up that power in which case it ends up being expensive tyre smoke....
Spot on Pugsey.Though on the money front...well, there's something about a meticulously engineered V8 in the engine bay that is massively appealing Even if the car couldn't be propelled that much quicker.

It's the new 5 speed Quaife, £2,500+VAT and rated to 375bhp....bargain
Thanks Mike. Not *really* that much a bargain though...Elite's 6spd sequential dog box is about the same money and has a cassette arrangement (bit like a Hewland or m/bike box) enabling you to (fairly) quickly change ratio's and a drop-gear (so don't need hens-teeth diff ratio). Can't remember what they rate it to...330hp and 10k rpm sounds about right, but comfortably in excess of what I need! It's titchy too. Murph7355 said:

...What's this V8 everyone's refering to? ...
You need to spend less time signing guest books at exotic dealers and more searching for truly mental things to do with your automotive party fund http://www.rst-v8.co.uk/
One of the neatest bits of kits I've seen in a long while, and the designer/builder is an A1 chap too.
Not cheap, but then quality never is.
Was very close to popping one in my own car, but priorities changed. Still a project for the future though

Pugsey - get a grip man! Re AMV8 and 355 - both excellent and must be sampled at some point. 355 is possibly a keeper too (IMHO). Re mental machinery - at least wait until you've got your R400 before confessing undieing love for others! Re my R400 - it's due in 2 weeks.... can't wait to take it for a BUURRRRRNNNNNNNNNNN! Yours must be due soon as well?

I had a good poke around Mike Biddle's RST-V8 car on the trip across America in 2005. A beautiful piece of kit and so fast (when fuelling properly!).
I just do not know how they managed to shoehorn it in and then to have it work well in the heat of the US (and presumably in Dubai too). Russell invited Murph and I to view the car in its virtually finished state. All the compnents are first class, including the loom and connectors. It is indeed very very lovely.IMO, the only engine I'll replace the current k-series for (just had to buy boring stuff (a house) so had to put plans on the back burner for a little while. Maybe next year).

Mid July for mine so I envy you! Done the AMV8 and waiting for my V8Roadster - due in July too - what a month!! Actively looking for a 355 at mo. but being VERY picky as I do intend it to be a 'keeper' although those who know me fall about laughing when I say that for some reason.... Anyway, R400 impressions and pics. in a few weeks please.spenny_b said:

I imagine that the Radical V8 would be worth thinking about too?
It looks a fair bit bigger. Hartley V8 though... http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1821906.htm

Have thought about Radicals in the past, but ultimately I'm not interested in an aero'd car.Caterham is adrenaline pumping enough for track days. And ultimately I would think more controllable in extremis.
If I were racing in things like the 750 club, then maybe a Radical would be wise. But as it's for fun.
Can't see a Radical being fun on public roads either - a Caterham is.

[Currently selling my SR3 to make way for the R400. With full aero the Rad just isn't fun. Very, very quick - Formula Palmer Audi quick - but it's just too serious. Braking areas are so compressed and cornering speeds so high that you have to take it seriously. A challenge yes, eyes out on stalks in the paddock yes but no loony grin. I'm looking forward to hanging the tail out again and generally hooning around. Yeh you can turn up at a track day in the Rad, drive at 75% and still blitz everything but where's the fun in that and believe me most of the one's you see on track days are YEARS off the pace.
Yep, that's what I thought and why I didn't go that route. I'm pretty sure that's why Danny sold his too. Thing with the Caterham is that you can have a blast even on slicks - sideways action at the command of your right foot. That Radical V8 engine - pretty similar in concept to the RST-V8 isn't it?
Rubystone, yes, that's exactly why I sold my SR3 after two years. The Caterham is so much more fun to drive on both road and track. Agree with everything Pugsey said just now.
My point was the Radical V8 is wider and taller than the RST, hence would have trouble fitting in an S3. Murph, I very much doubt the RST-V8 is better. Which one has been more proven having had many engines being thrashed in racing SR8's regularly, and having an established rebuild cycle? I think the Hartley-V8 is the best of both - standard Hayabusa heads, but as compact as the RST. Not many around though.
