My dad enquired about one at GoodWood, the guy (James who used to work at Caterham South) said you would need to order very soon to get a car before christmas.... smile

I put down a deposit about a month ago and was told to expect delivery in November.

So it seems to be getting on for 6 months.

Wow....may go second hand in that case....on that note would I be mad to think about a good R500...or is the view that it requires too much attention and has certain short-falls?

Go for an R400 Duratec, all of the performance without the grief and it still has upgrade potential (to 280bhp if you wish)

Give it a few months and I'm sure they'll start to trickle onto the market

In response to Catherine J, model makes no difference on order time, each car is individually built and any model can fill that slot.

Chances of a car coming up in the spec or colours you like in the next few months is slim to none! With this summer seemingly being an awful one with lots of rain so far, you might be better off ordering new and ensuring you get yours for next Spring?

The one on Caterhams web site seems a tad expensive to me? It was on the open market a month ago for several thousand less.

I understand that they never reduce their prices or do a deal?

I've been to see it, in my mind it just doesn't stack up. Nice enough but too expensive for an outgoing model? If it was a few thou cheaper ok, it's up for 4k more than it was advertised at a few weeks ago private sale, but it's fair to say that was probably a tad cheap. I realise they have to make a profit, but this amount of a hike hurts. Have fun!

And on an interesting note (further to my post) he (James) said 2 of their 3 press cars had been spanked!
He said a magazine had crashed one on a track day and another had been crashed into while being used by another mag!

Shame, I'd loved to have seen one! cloud9

So am I understanding this correctly we are talking about a 6 month wait?

If I see something used that we like how flexible are they on price?

If you're talking Caterham Cars, IME they will move, but not very much (I managed around 5% 11yrs ago, plus some bits and bobs like silver cuff links, t-shirts and mugs).

I'd strongly suggest you go to a few meets before buying. You may well get someone who'll offer to go and look at cars with you, and you won't be so tied to buying from Caterham (which would be a good thing - you'll be able to save a lot buying private or from elsewhere). Keep a close eye on blatchat and the classified here too...
