1 week ago I took delivery of a CSR 260 from Caterham.
On arrival home I found - Engine block, on plan. in the
topface of the bell housing (slightly offset to the centre), between the black tower(oil) and the block upstand, a hole, about 25mm dia and tapped.

It had been taped over with alloy sticky tape and that
was punctured.
I have queried Caterham on the issue but their reply is still lacking.
Questions: Is a core plug missing, or what & what is the reason for the tapped hole?

I have covered that hole with an old penny-piece bonded to the housing with mastic. As is, the car functions OK.,

Is the hole in the b/housing or the back of the engine.

Horizontally, on the slight curvature in

the bell housing casting. Location: engine block -

hole- black tower- then gearbox.

Stick-on, white, plastic, registration-number backing strips. for bonnet / nosecone location (as opposed to the regular screwed-on, low-mounted rigid variety). Can anyone tell me where I can purchase one pse ? I have tried Halfords, and most other places in Newport, S.Wales (and Demon Tweeks) only to find that they no longer sell them.

Hi Ken

I'm in Newport - Rogerstone

If you want me to take a look at your CSR hole . I suspect its the hole to allow the bleeding of the hydraulic clutch , and is therefore nothing to worry about.

I have just installed a Duratec in my Caterham if you wanted to pop over today and we can have a look at your hole

call me on 07771 891947

ps - number plates can be made by the signwritters / sign shop on Caerleon road to whatever size you require ;-)
