Had a quick search for this but cannot find anything.

Just wondering if leaking LSD are normal "they all do that sir" or if it is something that needs fixing.

it's Just a small leak - if you look under the back of the car there is oil but doesnt seem to drip much when left standing still.

Also how to check the level of oil in diff and refil if needed - is it easy ?

thanks for any help on this.

P.S. thinks it a quaife, its the six speed box / LSD setup.

More than likely it's just coming out of the breather at the top of the diff. If the cars recently been service and is used for track work then Caterham have a tendency to deliberately over fill the diffs and the innevitably a little then gets spat out of the breather.

You can probably check the level from underneath but I always do it from above by taking the boot floor out. There's a filler/level plug at the back of the diff, take it out, pore some oil in and wait for it to overflow. If you want to over fill it then put the plug back in and then put a bit more oil in through the breather on the top of the diff.

Thanks Mike,

Some more information. This is on a car that I am looking at to buy. so just want to know what the risk is. knowing its quite easy to check helps smile .
I forgot to say - according to last service a small amount is coming out of the seals(prop shaft / driveshaft) , is that normal / to be expected.

I would of thought that most of the oil is comming from the breathe pipe during driving as you mentioned.

Mine has always had a small leak, all I do is add more oil every now and then. The best way to do this is to remove the boot floor, then undo the bolt (using an alan key) then just top it up until it spills out of the diff.
Job done.

Thanks again,
so nothing to worry about - just keep and eye on it and fill it up every now and then wink
