Having got a few hundred miles under my (short differentialed) R400, I can confidently report that it is indeed very good and a total beast on the road. This is a good thing - and it will be even better when Caterham sort my diff out.

However... something is troubling me and I want your opinions please. Assume all of what happens next happens once the car has been nicely warmed up...

When heel and toe downshifting, the box is great from 6th to 5th, and 5th to 4th. But when I go from 4th to 3rd with a few revs on (i.e. 5k or more), it just won't go unless I force it - which is then accompanied by a massive graunch and a painful hand.

What could be the cause of this? Could it be a 'feature of all Caterham 6 speed boxes'? Could it be a shagged box? Could it be a box that needs more running in?

Thanks all

Doesn't sound right to me.

Has it always done this? Does it do it if you double declutch?

Are you resting your hand either side of the lever - i.e. putting an angled force on it? 3rd/4th plane is where the lever's sprung, so no need for side pressure.

I'd be inclined to ask them to look at it...

Yes - it's always done it. And double declutching doesn't seem to help... I will get them to look at it when they change the diff... whenever that might be...!

It's probably just a simple adjustment needed, but to be honest I wouldn;t be inclined to force the selection for fear of busting the box.

Might be time to hustle them up on the diff front.

Did you and Pugsey get anywhere with them on diffs?

Re diffs - we're on the case. Issue seems to be diff supply delays (for some reason)...

Re box - I'll get them to look at it when I'm next there...!

So far, the engine is behaving very nicely... No idea how long that will last though...!
