Hi All

I am considering buying a Caterham for weekends and track use. I love the sound and have driven them on track days...........I have checked out the website and they have an Academy Package. Does anyone know about this? Looks good for an entry level and some organised racing events......

Also, what are peoples experience of the Road version and the annual running costs?

Any views, thoughts and advice greatly received.

The Academy his proved EXTREMELY popular but you need to put your name down early in order to be able to get onto the next season's calendar of events. It has been running since 1995.

Caterhams vary in specification so much that it is impossible to be too perscriptive about what individual versions behave like or are like to run. The one thing about all of them is that they are raw, great for those who love "driving" and are FUN.

There is a web site here and a forum here. The Academy looks like a great introduction to racing and the cars are eligible for the graduates series for the next season. Not being a racer myself (I do sprints and hillclimbs though) I can't really comment on annual costs but as a road/track/sprint car they are pretty cheap to run - they aren't heavy on brakes/suspension/tyres which keeps costs down. They are also cheap to repair if you have an off - especially compared with tintops. Go for it.

You won't regret the academy......great intro into track racing and you can use the car on the road. Straight line grunt is a little down for road use but on a country lane there aint a lot will keep up with you.

After the academy the majority go either roadsports (racing drivers) or the graduates series (banger/demolition derby drivers)wink

Since doing the Academy and progressing into Roadsports, I don't find I drive half as much on the roads.
