Was only a couple of evo's done, this one if its the same car is an ex racer......was for sale for ages last year for around £22k, but then it had carbon seats....could be wrong though but doubt it.

Is that really your old car Nigel? Someone seems to have done a very very very (!) good job in converting it back to road spec if it is...and I'm a bit surprised that Caterham have it for sale too!!!!

Rathur, mail Nigel for full history on the car!

Saw this car, assuming it's the same one (how many R500E SV's are there in yellow/black!) at the London to Brighton Sossiges Lotus 7 club event last November. It was wearing the registration R500 SVR. Don't know who owned it then or what has happened to the plate.

Hmm...just to add the car in my pic (the Sossiges car) is slighly different in that it had carbon seats, a yellow 7 painted in the grille. no rear stone guards plus the black band on the Sossiges car stops at the bonnet rather than going up to the windscreen as the CC car does. All easy mods though I guess so must still be the same car?!

Evo sticker above the bonnet catch is in a different position and the wings are stuck on rather than bolted - looks like a different car!

Yes you are right, plus just spotted - no indicators on front wings. Must be different as you say. What are the chances given the colour schemes...

That's why I expressed my surprise that Caterham were selling Nigel's car....consequently it appears that at least one R500 SVR was indeed built by the factory?

To be honest I'm not sure anymore!

My old car was built, SVA'd and registered by Caterham in March 2003. The reg was a persoanl plate, R500 SVR. I can understand that plate going somewhere else but I'm not sure DVLA would issue a '54 plate as the replacement, implying a late 2004 build?
Although thinking about it, it started as an R500, it didn't get the R500E engine until summer 2004 - would that entitle it to a '54 plate?

Also my car has had two owners to my certain knowledge, probably three by now. That doesn't square with the Caterham ad that says 1 owner.

The cosmetic differences between the advertised car and Snappers relatively recent photos could all have been made as part of respray and refresh. Certainly R500 Evo's are rarer than hen's teeth, let alone an SV... I have never heard of another SV R500E and with that colour scheme - surely too much of of a coincidence!

I guess the only answer is to check with Caterham!

Re big engine standard chassis v SV chassis. Not a whole lot in it, the standard chassis is perhaps a tiny bit more chuckable, the SV chassis benefits from wider track but is a few pounds heavier. If you fit comfortably in the standard chassis I would say go with that, but if you would be more comfortable with a slightly wider & longer cockpit then go for the SV.

cheers
Nigel

How interesting..... Well I know where the yellow roll cage, and scuttle with race screens went to off FCats ex-racer... smile Whether this is THAT car or not I couldn't say for sure, BUT as R500 EVOs are very rare, AND R500 SVs are even rarer.. the chance of there being another R500 EVO SV with an identical paint job???

Anyone here think that Elvis is still alive and serving cups of tea in a Rickmansworth cafe???

No meta data on the photo so don't know when it was taken.

Do you know Nick Nigel?

Nope, never met him. His car looks like mine - got the Raceco silencer and the CF seats...

Looking at the pictures again...well, maybe Elvis is serving tea in Rickmansworth!

Look at the roll bar. In the pics that definitely show my old car, its fitted with an FIA roll bar. The pics of this "other" car show a non-FIA roll bar. Now cosmetic differences are easily explicable, but why would someone change the roll bar - and downgrade it too? Does rather suggest there are two SV R500E's with near identical yellow and black paint jobs, however unlikely that may seem?

fcat: The cage from your car was sold to an SV owner who part-ex'd an FIA bar. So your old car now has an FIA bar.

I suspect there are 2 similar cars, fcat's with all it's upgraded R500 gubbins (e.g. nitrons, raceco, carbon seats, and now FIA bar) and this 2004 car which looks stock R500.
I think there was a single R500Evo motor that never made it into a car?(there were only about 5 of them IIRC). Perhaps this motor has now been put into the SV and everything else upgraded to R500 Evo spec . . . . can't see how they could justify £33K otherwise.

I think you're right Adam. I only know of one SV car and that's FCat's ex race car....

If you click on that main pic on the soft bits site it opens the pic in another window which doesn't have the reg blanked out and it displays...R500 SVR...so yep it's Nigel's car.

and speaking of R500's Ruby...when are we going to see you and your car again??? Well you again at least???!!!
