any ideas what the 'choke' looking like lever is under the right hand drivers side of the dashboard ? it pulls out and isn't spring loaded. not seen anything like that since my 1981 mini !

Heater control by the sound of it. Pull it out to keep your toes warm.

I only found out how to open the valve a week before I sold my Roadsport - I though the heater was crap, but it's was my own incompetence that was the problem.

As has already been said - heater control. Allows you to vary the heat from warm to bloody boiling.

ah, that all makes sense ! yes, it has a heater...yes the heater was good when I test drove it (melting my legs) and then when i pushed the lever in while cleaning it the heater has been rubbish....all becomes clear...

As for whether i've had the bonnet off and traced the cable...well yes I've had the bonnet off, but only to plug the charger on the battery and to check the oil and water.
