Hi guys

I'm from 'the other side', an Ariel Atom owner! I do love the Caterham though. Hope to see some of you at the forthcoming Classic Car Show near Bridgend on 11th May.

Anyway, back to the subject. Like the Atom the Caterham's suspension & steering hardware is exposed on each corner of the car. I've seen some of the older Atoms with stone damage and consequent rust, it can look awful and most certainly spoils the whole appearance and, I'm sure the resale value of the car.

Ariel, the manufacturer of the Atom used to produce a kit of Helicopter tape to protect these vulnerable & exposed parts.

Do Catrham produce such kits or do any of you have experience of working with Helicopter tape?

Cheers

John

John,
Caterhams are extreme anough for me; Atoms are on a different plane altogether!

I'm not aware of Caterham producing anything like that but a lot of owners use Armourfend on their bodywork (not of much interest to you).
I'm sure I've seen mention of helicopter tape either here or on the Lotus7 Forum, http://www.blatchat.com. You have to be a member to post, but you CAN use the search feature and also PM any of the posters by clicking on the envelope on each thread.
Good luck,
Alan

Halfords sell similar 'Armourfend' type sheets which you could cut up and use as 'tape' for wishbones etc etc

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, the Atom is rather extreme but it's part of the cost of fun for me smile Love it.

I've actually purchased some 3M Helicopter Tape and geez, is it expensive. The protection afforded by the stuff however is very impressive.

I did fit some to my Atom about a year back but it was a royal PITA to do - getting the cuts in the right place etc etc. Since then I've purchased a vinyl cutter and created the cutting profilles for the Atom so all I have to do now is feed the Helicopter Tape in and cut for each corner of the Atom.

It took me ages to get the profiles correct but I got there in the end! Fitting should now be relatively easy.

I'm not sure if there are any Caterhams near me (Bridgend, South Wales) but if there was any interest I could measure up and do the same.

Anyway, have fun.

John
