Easy answer to that - buy this month's edition of Track and Race Cars Magazine....here...

There's a great test of R300 Duratec versus R300 K and R500 K. The R300 Duratec is a very good car indeed - If I were buying one car for a mix of track and racework and wanted something that felt solid as a rock and yet was still exciting on track - it'd be an R300 Duratec.

R300 will be great car whichever way you choose to go. I'm fairly sure that a new Duratec car will be around £30k with a few nice bits.
There have been a few go unreasonably cheap of late - may be guys trying to get out of a toy quickly?
I reckon around the £20 - 21k mark will get you a really good car - if it's your first one the options wont really matter as the R300 will come with most of the stuff you'll want. Some will have been driven very hard indeed so look out for full evidence of regular service work.
I was in CC south at the weekend and they have two R300's in. I dont know where you are but it might be worth a call or visit to the guys for a chat. The black car looks lovely!!

Happy hunting!

R300 duratec is (IMHO) an awesome bit of kit. Haven't driven one on the road but I imagine it would be a whole heap of fun. Round the track the car feels amazing, okay it might be nice to have a few more BHP down the straights but its more than enough. Only thing coming past me on the straights were 911 gt3's and some monster skyline.

(911's had been blocking and refusing to move over for all the caterhams all day hence the poke at them)

Engine is bog standard (as its a race car) and with CR500's has pretty much a perfect balance of grip/power. If your considering getting a new duratec I couldn't recommend it enough.

I heard the new avon's provide excellent traction for getting out of gravel traps James. You must really be pushing to get some eh...;) Not sure if you are ahead or behind in the que to Draper, but he has quite a knack of getting out of them.....

We'll see...... I wouldn't be planning on walking away with the championship just yet smile

Is Jonny racing at oulton?

You won’t go far wrong with any R, whether it’s K or D powered. However the new Duratec R300 has upped the anti somewhat, and as mentioned by Rubystone (thanks for that), my group test results are in the latest issue of Track & Race Cars magazine.

A little video of all three here: http://vimeo.com/channels/trcmagazine

If you attend the magazines track day at Brands Hatch on the 1st June

www.motorsportvision.co.uk/trctrackdays

Caterham are there with both the R300 and R500 for demo laps.
