STARTING PROBS WITH MY, 03 VX ASTRA 1.7 CDTI!

Hi to all. Some mornings my Astra starts and runs fine. Other mornings it starts, runs for approximately 10 Seconds and then dies!
Starting it again takes ages, like its trying to clear an air lock. A few times iv even had to recharge the battery in order to start it!!!
Beginning to think it happens more in cold or damp weather as due to the recent great weather here, its started fine!
Anyone got any ideas???
