Is the roof panel any good in terms of wind-noise reduction and keeping the car dry? How much better than the canvas cover is it? I'd normally drive roof off, but over the winter might consider fitting a full roof for comfort.
Therefore, is is worth going out to find a used car with one, or can panels be purchased (colour matched) from dealers?

The hard top does reduce noise a bit and definately makes motorway driving more comfortable on the ears. I bought mine from the vx220.org website (comes from Thorney Motor Sport) and it cost £920 fully colour coded, apparantly it's lighter and easier to fit than the normal Vauxhall one.
Only problem I have is that there is still some leakage from the tops of the windows. You can adjust the windows to fit it properly, I just haven't got roind to it.

Soundd like it's definitely worth going for then if I see a car I like that comes with one, unless I find a car I really want without one and buy it seperately. How difficult is the standard roof to fit by the way?
I've never used the standard one, but from what I've heard it does take longer and you need a specific tool which has a habbit of going walkies between owners. If you do a search on the vx220.org.uk website your bound to get plenty of info as I'm pretty sure this has been asked a good few times before.

the vauxhall roof is not a prob to fit, takes about 10mins at a guess. You need a torx tool to fit (if the owner does not have the original think there about £10 from halfords)
Mine fits snug and does not leak, not always the way though as the windows can be a pain a need to be adjusted. (im just lucky lol)

Ah, I was thinking it was more like a targa roof panel (a la TVR). It's more of a "winter's coming let switch roofs" affair then. At least I didn't ask if the hard roof would fit in the boot
