Thanks for the update - good intel!
I'd be happy to wait for the new plate and Spring weather if its due in Feb/March Saves buying a set of winter tyres and I can put that towards a de-cat pipe
In fairness, in a lot of ways I wish mine was coming in the spring, but the little boy in me is happy to have an earlier one.I'd be happy to wait for the new plate and Spring weather if its due in Feb/March Saves buying a set of winter tyres and I can put that towards a de-cat pipe
Congratulations on the order by the way, and welcome to the 'club'
Good nudge on tyres - was going to ask people whether they are getting them and if so what - will start another thread on that
Has anyone found an insurance company that knows what the UK S550 is yet?
Insuring a car that has no previous stats in this country is going to be interesting.
Best quote as a Londoner with the car parked in an open car park, when I almost bought a 2011 Mustang last year, was £1300 TPFT. Lots wouldn't quote and I did ring every suggested company, loads of them.
That was as a second car, clean licence and 20 years odd of NCB. I'm in my 50s.
Gonna be a real pisser if the car is virtually impossible to insure. Would be good to know in advance as I want it so much that I might move out of London just to get insurance

I was on holiday in the US after Easter, and we had a Mustang convertible booked to drive from Vegas to LA. It was looking like we'd only be able to have one of the old models for a while, but then a 400 mile old S550 turned up so we nabbed that I wasn't surprised there weren't any V8s, but having expected a V6 we actually got an Ecoboost. All automatics off course...
A couple of pics:
Overall impression was that it's a great car, I was hugely impressed The Ecoboost went well enough, and didn't sound too bad for a 4-pot. The auto seemed a bit old fashioned, and not quite a seamless as I guess a modern DSG-type box is, but I'm getting a manual anyway Steering weight was great, and for what it quite a big car it didn't feel heavy at all. Ride was pretty impressive (and some of the roads in LA are shocking...), and although there wasn't much of a chance for cornering, it felt decent enough with not much body roll.
Interior is lovely - there are a few cheapish looking plastic bits here and there, but then my F30 320 is exactly the same... There are lots of nice details, and the overall look is great. You could change the gauge and interior lighting colour on this one, which was fun, and there are loads of gauges and charts you can display in the panel in between the two main dials. Love this when you turn the car on at night too
Something else you don't get from pictures is the view down the bonnet - the two creases are cool:
They are really good looking cars in my view - you get a great rear-arch bulge when you look in the door mirror, the rear lights are much more sculptured than I expected, and it has great proportions - clearly American, but not to the extent of something like a Camaro (of which there seem to be millions out there!). We popped in to a Ford dealer (wanted to see a Ruby Red fastback one - this is what we've ordered) and in their lot they had just received a delivery so had pretty much all the colours. The Deep Impact is really nice as well, as is Guard. Wasn't sure about black, but they were still covered in grime and muck so not the best way to see them, plus it had silver wheels, rather than the black PP ones.
Anyway, after 400+ miles in one, I'm definitely looking forward to our's arriving (whenever that is!)

Sorry I meant UK / dealer support etc its not a proper order confirmation its just a sop to the people who have reserved a place in the que.
It's exactly that, a place in the queue - I presume it means that we will be ahead of those who place an order today (hopefully...). The actual order is of course not in yet, sounds like that should be in a week's time with any luck!slowhand99 said:

I have still not heard anything from Ford - Should I worry?
My email took a month from putting a deposit with the dealer. I'm planning on going into the dealer this week anyway to make sure they are on the ball with getting orders confirmed.I'm going to wait until May when apparently orders start being confirmed properly & see what they have to say then.

I placed my deposit 25th Jan and have heard the grand sum of fkall from anyone (Gowrings Basingstoke) which is somewhat disconcerting when david B paid his the day after with the same dealer & has had an email.

What happens when you speak to the sales guy ? Mine constantly emails despite no deposit and he has "loads of pre orders" maybe it's the dealer size ?I'm going to wait until May when apparently orders start being confirmed properly & see what they have to say then.
He just said it's down to heavy volumes and Ford are just working through all the orders. So, complete bullst in other words.
As I said, I'll wait till orders start being confirmed in May & then I shall go in and demand something from FORD asap or their manager will be giving me his Champions League place in the queue (he doesn't know that yet)!

Even though it's not on Vista, the orders have already been lodged with the Ford US
