Yes, that will almost certainly have contributed to the accelerated new car price increases in £ in the last few months. But the £40k threshold for the new (mental) Road Tax should have an effect both ways:

1. it should cap new cars at £40k (otherwise they will be subject to the extra £310 per year for the next 5 years - so why would you spec one at £41k ?)
2. it should make the pre April 2017 cars less attractive as they are stuck with £515 per year whereas newer cars that sneak in under £40k will be subject to annual Road Tax only £140
Well, you might want a V8, vert, auto. In which case you are over £40k before tax regardless of extras.

It is a bit like the old Stamp Duty where it was 3% if the property was over £250k or more but only 1% if under £250k. No one paid £251k for a house as the duty would be £7,500 whereas, if they paid just £1k less, the duty was just £2,500.

Along same lines it would be insane to pay £41k for a car....

Ha insane is a bit strong.

It's only £1550 more over the life of the car so it effectively just makes it a £42.5k car rather than £41k. Not really the end of the world. Per month it's ~£26 or about a third of a tank of fuel in a GT so 80 odd miles worth. I wouldn't call that insanity. It's still cheaper to tax that a pre tax change GT

While RHD doesn't remove this experience, it does IMO have an effect on it.

Driving any LHD vehicle in the UK can feel special to an extent. But make it a relatively rare sporting model with good performance and it becomes an event.

The RHD models will diminish this uniqueness and rareness. And they must be selling, because I've seen loads and loads of them. So it stands to reason that many of the new buyers are not the same people that bought LHD models previously.

I think prices will remain high while they are still a novelty and somewhat short supply new. But in time I suspect they will drop like most other cars.
From my time on the owner's forums, there are obviously many of us that are first-time buyers in to the marque, but many own an S197 or older as well. They don't appear to be selling up FOR the S550, but certainly the "luxury" of a UK warranty and ease of RHD (be it real or assumed) is helping too.

Personally, whilst I love mine, I'd have ripped GM's hands off for a RHD Camaro. I'm not hugely bothered about RHD so much as a good dealer and parts network to back it up (which you know all too much about!). I may just have to get a LHD one as well :P
Have not been on here for ages
A lot of owners I know from the MOCOGB who had Lefty S197s or older, have now got RHD S550s, they say because of the ease of getting parts and the 3 year guarantee. Now me I had a S197, but wanted all the tech that the US S550 comes with, so went and got a Fully Loaded California Special, 6k of extras and got her on the road in the UK for 45k, only 3k more than the Auto Vert Euro Stang, and of course I pay a lot less Tax. And its the only CS in the UK and maybe Europe. As for the guarantee I have a 3 year also, and thanks to my importer even have the Sat Nav Sync3 running UK Maps now and Android Auto. for me for the extra 3k it was a no brainer, but I think there are only 20 if that LHD S550s over here, and I get loads of wedding as she is a bit Special
