351- which is best, 'c' or'w' ?

Hi,any Muzzie people out there with experience of the 351 units,I'm planning the spec for a replica Cobra, and am interested in these two. I am aware that the Windsor is of the 302 family, but don't know much about the Cleveland, or how the two compare.
Any info much appreciated.

The 351w is basically a truck motor (more torque-less H.P.), the 351c was built as a performance motor. Blocks are different as well as crank (351c has 4 bolt mains?), rods, pistons,and the heads. The biggest difference is in the heads as the 351c has canted valves allowing for the use of bigger valves. The 351c heads can be used on a 351w with some modification.

I'm sure someone who knows them better will be along shortly to correct/add to this.

Thanks Derric,that's interesting-I've also found some info on 'Engine Factory.com',they mention the inherent strength of the Windsor engine,making it a sound foundation for their stroker versions,and I'm thinking that this would definitely be on my short list,still in production too, has Cleveland been phased out ?

The Clevland stopped being produced in 1974 in the U.S., but were made in Australia for a time longer, maybe early to mid 1980's? I remember talking about the Aussie 351c when I was in High school- 1982ish. Those blocks are probaby getting hard to come by and expensive now.

Derric,thanks once again,I'm seeking a combination of"not too wild or peaky,but menacing rumble on idle,and a torrent of torque delivered with a deep guttaral roar when the taps are open",checking out www.enginefactory.com,this guy has a 351w powered Cobra we go for a ride in,sounds quite sporty for a truck motor!!
Claimed to be giving 400 horses,makes just the noise I'm seeking,and has that lovely appearance like the old 289..

Yes, it sounds great, with all of the aftermarket parts available there's no reason you can't build up a Windsor and get what you want out of it. Keep doing you homework.
